Short Barreled 3006

Looking to see opinions of a 20 inch 3006. I am kicking around getting a Remage in either MTU or Palma in 1:10 twist to make the rifle a lot more handy suppressed/lighter. I mostly shoot 175 SMK's, 180 SGK, or 150 grain Hornady SSTs. I know its what 20-30 FPS per inch cut, so to roughly 120 FPS difference from the current barrel. Other than muzzle velocity/flash are there other issues I am not seeing? From reading its split down the middle.

Is this a target gun?

Ive got a hunting rifle in 338-06. Works fine.

If you want it lighter and handier I’d get something like a #4-light Palma contour. An MTU is still going to be a truck axle of a barrel at 20”.

Take a look at Hodgdon's pistol data for 30-06. That may give you a relative idea of the speeds you may get. 10 twist works well, I personally do not think getting the RPMs up a little in a shorter barrel hurts; like a 9 twist. Especially if you want to push the heavier bullets. A suppressed short barrel can surprise you, often they're really easy to tune.
