shortage of parts and ammo

Re: shortage of parts and ammo

NOT AGAIN!!! This kind of crap always gets brought up (STIRRED UP). If you could trace the "rumors" back to their sources, I would almost bet that it starts with some @$$hole executive of a major firearms/part/component retailer asking his board of directors:

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">"Gee guys...how can we actually meet our ridiculously over-estimated profits this quarter/year/etc.???? I know...let's start a rumor that if Obama remains in office another term, that his A#1 priority is going to be massive, sweeping, neverbeforeseen horrific gun control that will make ammo, parts, components, etc. impossible to obtain without paying outlandish prices or outright illegal and unobtainable!!!! That will certainly get the Sheeple all f---in' strirred up into a buying frenzy and our products will fly off the shelves like Twinkies at Fat People's Association Meeting!! Then, to really get the Sheeple coming and going...we'll mark up our products 50% and then offer a 'NOBAMA SALE' with 10% off everything!! Alrighty my little minions...now go forth and spread the word on ARFCOM and let's sit back with a beer and watch the money roll in!!"</div></div>

It is your basic fear-mongering sales tactics at its worst. Beyond that, people are paranoid and generally scared to death of "what might be around the bend" if x-politician or y-politician get elected/re-elected. The problem with this crap is that SO MANY OF THE SHEEPLE BUY INTO IT HOOK, LINE AND SINKER!! This in turn, actually drives buying/spending through the roof and can lead to shortages, etc. However, at this time, I have not had any difficulties locating anything that I have wanted/needed in pretty short order and I have not paid any outrageous price for anything.

If there is something specific that you are looking for (ammo or parts/component-wise), just ask. I am sure that folks here could probably point you in a direction of where you can find some and likely at reasonable prices. Just don't be one of those aforementioned @$$holes that spreads the fear, ignorance, etc.!!

If it is "G&R Tactical"...I have done business with Grant and Roxanne in the past and had excellent service from them. I don't want my post above to impune their reputation or anything of the sort as they are fine folks to deal with and they run a good operation.

This kind of S#!T just drives me nuts because so many people get caught up in the garbage that it ends up driving prices sky high and adversely effecting availability of some products for no reason other than fear and bull$H!T.

No argument here. Price on ammunition and reloading components have increased some since last year...part due to the normal, annual increases in prices that always come...part due to availability of raw materials and an increase in prices of those materials.

BUT...that doesn't have anything to do with the 2012 elections and who may run/get elected or re-elected, etc.!

Re: shortage of parts and ammo

I don't know if it has anything to do with the 2012 elections, but I have noticed a lot of places are out of stock on many items. Just to be safe I am buying any parts I had planned on buying in the future whenever I can find them available. I was pissed when their was a shortage in 08 and I couldn't get my hands on anything I needed. Watch for all the horders to be selling their stockpiles in 2013 and 14 when the supplies replenish and the scare is over though.

Not only is he a dealer but he owns the forum. Do the math...

Re: shortage of parts and ammo

Some component prices have gone up. Hornady 75gr match bullets went up $15 for a 600 box last week some time(@Midway). Some places still have the same item for old price. Components will always fluctuate on Metal prices.

Re: shortage of parts and ammo

Doesn't matter where the rumors start from or whether they are true or not. End result is the speculation will drive up prices just as it always has. Sad really.

Re: shortage of parts and ammo

I see the firearms industry has learned the same lessons that the oil & gas industries learned after 9-11. Reg. Gas was like $1.86-$1.90 when I drove through my hometown at 6:45am the morning of 9-11. By 3pm there were 20-30 cars in-line at every pump in town, with some people filling every car, can, 4-wheeler, or anything they owned that'd hold gas. 2 gas stations in town jumped their price from $1.87+/-, up to $4.00 a gallon. All because every radio/TV station in the land was predicting the END of any gas being available for weeks or months.

It was all bullshit, but that didn't stop gas prices from sky-rocketing everytime the terror-threat level was raised, or everytime somebody down in the Gulf of Mexico farted and a hurricane was predicted.

You would think that by now, people would be sick 'n tired of being yanked-around by the balls everytime some assholes think they need to improve their bottom-line.

Of course, all those events did help to create a whole new sector of the firearms industry(I'd never heard of a F-in' "Bug-Out Bag" before then), & it gave Michael Bane some great new TV-show ideas! Idk how some people could even get themselves to "function" if their as paranoid as that Ole' cat seems to be...

Re: shortage of parts and ammo

The industry is going crazy right now for a couple reasons:

1. People have money to spend in the form of tax returns
2. Next year is an election year and we have a Democrat in the White House currently who still stands a chance of being re-elected
3. A major barrel manufacturer, Sabre Defense, was shut down forcing builders like BCM to scurry for a new source.

Re: shortage of parts and ammo

Just to pile more anecdotal speculation on the heap, a stroll through Cabela's yesterday showed no .308 brass. Might not mean much, but considering the generally plentiful nature of the cartridge, seemed a little early to not have any stocking the shelves. I'm certain I could find plenty on-line, just felt atypical.

Though I agree with MidwestPX, considering Obama's own recent "op-ed" piece, and tendency to acquiesce to UN authority, people might be feeling skittish, just like before Obama was elected.

Only sensible thing to do is stock up when ever you can, for what ever you can, and ride out the demand peaks. You should be doing that anyway.

+1 Like a self fulfilling prophecy. Notice all the guys selling primers now??? There were the ones that bought them all up over the past two years. Local outages are meaningless. Go to Brass Pro one week they have 20 bags of .308 Win. brass. Go back the next week there all gone. So what. They'll have more after their next shipment.

Good luck
