So I'm thinking about shortening the barrel on my MKII by about 2-4 inches and I have a few questions before do it.

Will this improve accuracy?
What does crowning mean and what does it do the barrel?
Can I buy an aftermarket barrel to fit it instead of cutting this one down?

Re: Shorter Barrel?

Crowning means you need a gunsmith. The crown is the last thing your bullet touches before it takes unimpeded flight so it is considered the most important part of the barrel. Crowning is supposed to make the muzzle square and true.
