I have a Savage .300WM on the 110BA chassis, so this is long action. I have been trying to sell it. At some point, the price is just too low to part with. I paid $2,300 a few years back, and I want to say that I have "graduated" to more precise, or at least more expensive bolt action guns. I have been toying with getting a new Chassis. Maybe the ESS from MDT. If a Dual Strike would fit, I might consider that. I realize the barrel on a factory Savage is going to be average. Is there any reason to think I would be improving much by getting a new chassis?

if youre goal is increased accuracy.....ide just buy a new barrel........all you need is a barrel nut wrench and a go-gauge and you can rebarrel at home.

accuracy isnt likely to change by switching to a different chassis.

Based on my short experience with the McRee G10 chassis on my new Tikka, I recommend this as a consideration. And just because your barrel is factory Savage barrel does not necessarily mean that it is average. In fact, Savage barrels have a pretty good record of being decent shooters on the average, if somewhat short chamber wise sometimes.. You just have to make sure that it is in a proper stock or chassis.

Depends on how your gonna shoot it. Do you not like the weight of the Savage chassis? To me I'd love that gun, in that caliber. I think the weight would soak up recoil, and I'd be shooting that caliber off a bi pod and rear bag at longer ranges. If it's not shooting accurately, if you don't hand load. I'd get a new barrel. If I wanted to shoot from improvised positions, shoot PRS, etc I wouldn't shoot a 300 win. It could be cool in an MDT but might be a little brutal recoil wise. Just my opinion though. Cool gun, I'd keep it how it is for a long range precision rig, change the barrel if it doesn't shoot.
