Hornady Lock N load Headspace Gauge or RCBS Precsion Mic Gauge?

I am going to be bumping the shoulders back on my .300WM but the thing is I have the Redding Type "S" Full Length Bushing Die with the Competition Seater.

I have never checked the shoulder bump before so I am new to this cuz I ALWAYS just FL Sized. I thinking I will get longer brass life with the .300WM.

Take me thru the steps on Shoulder bumping with a FL die please.

Thanks.

Here's a thread from a few days ago we talked about the process. It should help. You'll need a tool to check the datum point on the shoulder. The RCBS mic will do it, but the Hornady one comes with more bushings for a vararity of calibers. I'd go the Hornady route.

Chad,

Promise not to laugh... I use a 40 S&W case to measure my shoulders.

Cheap! Just make sure to mark it and use the same one every time. It's just a reference, but if you reload 40 S&W (I do) it looks like all the others!

Actually, that would work well. All you need is a reference point about half way on the shoulder to take a measurement, and the .400 case would be almost dead middle of most 30-06 and 308 based cases. Use the same one each time, and it would work good. Great idea!
