I have a P226R combat 9mm and would like to have a .40 cal. Would a P226 caliber conversion kit work on my combat frame? I don't want to mess up my frame or spend the money and it not work. Just trying to make sure. Thanks.

That's a NEGATIVE!

Going up in caliber from a 9mm P226 is a no go, but you can go DOWN from a .40/357Sig to a 9mm with a special barrel and 9mm mags. The 9mm breachface is just too small to accept the .40/.357 case head. To do a caliber swap to a larger caliber on a 9mm P226 will require a complete top end swap (complete slide, barrel and recoil setup).

Re: Sig P226 question

That is what I had planned. I found a complete Sig Caliber conversion kit. Had the complete slide, barrel, and mag. Just wanted to make sure that it would fit my combat frame.

It may work on the frame.

Re: Sig P226 question

I don't know for sure, but I would guess that since they sell the same basic .22 for all those kits, that it would work. Could always call TopGunSupply or Sig Sauer and ask them.

P.S. I've ordered from TGS before and they are great!

Re: Sig P226 question

The Caliber X-Change kits are what I meant by a "complete top end swap" and they should be ok.

If you check out the sigforums on this topic, you will find that Sig has made a couple different public statements about the use of the Caliber X-Change kits to do what you are wanting to do. The long and short of it is that currently, Sig says it will work from a safety/reliability standpoint if your P226 is one of recent production which is a contradiction from their previous position of "not recommended."
