I am looking at getting the Sig Cross rifle: https://www.sigsauer.com/firearms/rifles-pistols/cross.html

I am trying to figure out what type of optic to put on it. Most of my shooting will be at the range for long distance but I would also like to use it for hunting.

I would like to keep it light but still try and get the best of both a hunting distance optic and a long range optic. I have found two options:
Vortex RAZOR® HD LHT™ 4.5-22X50 FFP - https://www.sigsauer.com/firearms/rifles-pistols/cross.html
Sig SIERRA6BDX 3-18X44 MM - https://www.sigsauer.com/sierra6bdx-3-18x44-mm-1.html

The Vortex seems like the best option but when looking at the Sig it has the Ballistic Data Exchange 2.0. It seems to take all the guess work out of things and makes shooting like a video game almost.

What are your thoughts?

I love my Cross, it’s a great hunting rifle but if you are going to be shooting PRS style competitions you may want something with a little more weight. The Cross will certainly work but it’s optimized for being a lightweight rifle to carry, not a target rifle. As for the scopes, I know @koshkin really liked his Razor…I haven’t heard anything about the Sig. If you have one of their LRFs it would probably be a good option.

For shooting competitions I was thinking about adding weights to the rifle. I thought I saw some where you can add it to the rails.

If your primary use is competition with secondary hunting, the Cross might not be the best choice. Not only the weight factor, but the short barrel length too. An RPR or a Tikka would probably be a better option.

For sure, I was thinking just for range practice to really hammer down the fundamentals. Easier to track shots with a bit more weight I'd imagine

(I don't plan on doing any competitions)
