This spring was my first time shooting to 1000 yards. I was on steel torsos at shot #4 and was able to easily hit them repeatedly with 175 fgmm. I'm thinking of getting a new barrel from Benchmark. My thoughts were on the 6 creedmoor. I'd like to get out to a mile in 2019. Then I looked at the ballistics of the 22 creedmoor and saw how much flatter it was than the 6 creedmoor. Also exposure time to the wind is shorter thus better in the wind. I'm not interested in hunting with it so energy is not important to me. That being said, my thoughts were, get the 22 creed. Am I missing any other considerations? Thanks in advance.

Still curious about 22 creed vs 6 creed to a mile
Flat only helps up close and intermediate distances before it starts to shed momentum rapidly further out. For long range and ELR you want more mass. I would lean to the 6 between the two of them. I would lean towards the 6.5 over the 6 creed.

I could see the plate swing with a 6.5 creed 140 gr at 1570 yards, I couldnt really see any swing with my 6xc and 105s

Glad you posted this and hope you don't mind my asking....

I too have a Sig SSG3000 in .308 and i only shoot paper or steel. I'm hoping to get up to 1000 yards. I'll likely take a precision rifle class in the future. I really suffer from the recoil even though i've hand loaded lighter rounds.

I have added a muzzle break and added .75lb to the buttstock and the rifle now balances at the front action screw. I think it fits me fairly well.

I was looking at the Benchmark Barrel site in an effort to identify a suitable more forgiving caliber for longer range shooting.

Are people pleased with the Benchmark Barrels for this rifle? Are there other options i should consider. Would a 6 or 6.5 creedmoor prove significantly more forgiving for 1K ranges?

thanks

I have heard rave reviews of Benchmark barrels. I believe one of the posters above claimed he did 6.5x55 swede and loves it. I would assume it was a Benchmark since they are the only ones making barrels for this rifle. I'm thinking 6 creedmoor would be great for recoil. 108 grain bullet vs 168 or 175 for the 308. Just my opinion

Benchmark barrels are excellent! IMO they make the best rimfire barrel going. Which IMO is a more difficult barrel to make super accurate.

Look at the numbers on a hot Sweed, they get it done!!

I've been reading about softer shooting long range calibers. As you can no doubt see i'm very new to all of this. Thought about the 6 Creedmoor but perhaps the 6 Dasher might even be easier for me.....wonder if this would work and if the magazine would accommodate this caliber? I saw that there is an adapter for an AICS type magazine but i don't think this is the same as the Sig magazine?

The plastic extended bottom of a Sauer 202 5 shot magazine fit the SSG3000 magazine perfectly to make a 7 round magazine with the original mag spring. The plastic part is cheap, (at least in Norway)
I actually use a suppressed 20" 30-06 semiweight Sauer 202 barrel in my SSG3000 for hunting.

The ultimate long range soft shooting round in a SSG3000 is probably the old 6mm Remington loaded long with a 1-8" barrel. The 6rem treats the barrel better than the 243win.
