The last post I done was simple and I got hammered I will give for details.
I bought a colt a2 that was converted by John Norrell into a m16 . I am putting a LWRC m6a3 10.5 upper on it. Will have a magpul ubr stock, magpul miad grip, and a surefire m900. I am trying to figure out what sight I should get.
Considered
Eotech
Mars
Acog
Elcan
I am leaning towards probly an eotech, but I am open to any ideas and suggestions.

Re: Sight for a m16

On a 10 inch gun go Aimpoint T1 or EO tech XPS 3-0 Either of those would be fine for the shorty upper that you are working with.

Re: Sight for a m16

ACOG makes several that I've used. They've all held up well. Try to check out the different reticles if you can get your hands on them.

Re: Sight for a m16

What are you doing with the rifle? My quess is that an Aimpoint T1 is sufficient. Plus it will keep your short upper light and compact. If you throw an ACOG or Elcan on there, you lose that.

I am partial to Aimpoints, especially the T1, and am comfortable shooting with it as far away as I can see the target (assuming the range is reasonable for my 10.5"). There are probably guys that can shoot father and more accurately than me with the same sight. Eotech would work also, but again, I like Aimpoint. I personally feel that you don't need any magnification on a shorty, as I use them for shorter work. I have longer barelled rifles/uppers for mid-long range situautions. But it is your gun, so do what you want.

Re: Sight for a m16

Well I can tell you that if your looking for an optic like an EotecH
I would buy an aimpoint hands down. I use an EotecH for my current job and they are a nice optic but they do fail from time to time. The springs in the battery box get weak from the recoil of the round. I'm trying to get my team switched over to Aimpoints. Aimpoints are extremely durable and battery life is about a 1000% longer. When the Aimpoint rep demoed the optic for me he shot an M4 with the optic on it at a 100yd popper and hit. Took the optic off and threw it against a wall. Picked the Aimpoint up and mounted it back on the weapon. He then reengaged the 100 yard popper and "Ping" the thing was still on the money.
Very impressive demonstration. Aimpoints are also hand made in the USA.

It is really just something to play around with and let some bullets fly!! I will not be shooting all that far normally probly around 100 yards or so!! I have a few long range rifles when i want to stretch something out! Im sure I will stretch out that 10.5 upper and see what it will do from time to time. That is why i was considering the eotech with a mag. when i wanted to go out a couple hundred yards with it.

It sounds to me like you do not need magnification at all. Even for those times when you do go out to "a couple hundred yards", an Eotech or Aimpoint will do just fine without any mag. Again, I steer you towrds the Aimpoint. Someone else brought up a good point that I forgot about, BATTERY LIFE. Aimpoint blows Eotech out of the water in this field. I have had a T1 on level 7 since September of '09 and it still looks like i just put a new battery in it. One of my duty guns wears an Eotech (not by my choice) and I replace the batteries every couple months beacause they have died on me at very bad times in tghe past.

Re: Sight for a m16

We have aimpoints on most of our M4's, and I don't care for them.
Used an ACOG this deployment, and it never gave me reason to complain.
On my personally owned 10.5" upper I'm using a Vortex Strikefire. So far, it's been tits on every time, and I like it.

Really easy-going price, too.

Re: Sight for a m16

I've used Aimpoints, ACOGs, and EOTechs. I like the Aimpoints and ACOGs the best. The EOTech had poor battery life, used really weird batteries, and the reticle appeared "fuzzy". I have good eyesight and I expect my reticles and dots to be sharp.

Aimpoint is parallax free, which is a pretty good bonus.

Re: Sight for a m16

I like the m4s unless u really need the ACOG magnification. Had both and sold the ACOG eventually. All the optics your looking at are good choices (dont know about mars...never handled) Elcan is cool but at $2k I had a hard time with the price. My vote would be an aimpoint micro if u are doing an sbr though.

Re: Sight for a m16

alright i will take a look at it. I just talked to a buddy who is infantry and he loved the ACOG said that he didnt really like the aimpoint, said he would choose ACOG everytime over an aimpoint. So it sounds like it is really personal preference for sure.
Thanks for all the input fella's
