I have been looking for a tactical/long range hunting scope under $1000. I think I have it narrowed down to the Sightron Sii 6-24 or the Vortex viper pst. Any other suggestions? Which one has better glass, adjustments, warranty, etc?

Re: sightron siii or?

I just went through the same dilemma. Originally, I pre-ordered the Viper PST from Liberty and then I did some more research and changed to the Sightron. For me it came down to not really needing all the bells and whistles on the PST. Most of my shooting will be done at known distances and I am not really concerned about hold-overs. Plus, I wanted to wait a few months for people to really put the PST through its paces. I have not received the scope yet because Scott did not have any on hand. He was expecting a shipment at some point this week. I can certainly let you know more once the scope comes in.

Re: sightron siii or?

You probably won't regret your decision either way. Speaking from experience, the SIII 6-24x50 is a great scope. The turrets are pretty good; clicks are nice, just a little close together. I like the reticle very much, even though I'd prefer if it was accurate at 12x. I like that the edges are dark and strong and quickly lead your eye to the crosshair, which is very fine. The glass is fantastic. Way brighter than my VX-III, maybe a bit less contrast. I don't want this to be true, but it's also brighter than my NXS 3.5-15x56.

Re: sightron siii or?

I'm in the same situation as you are. Was wondering if I should get the Sightron SIII or wait for the Vortex PSTs to come out. From what I've been reading here, Vortex and Sightrons are both fine scopes with excellent warranty. I guess it all depends on what your needs are, ie. do you need FFP? Illuminated reticle? MIL/MIL? If it's required for your uses, then by all means wait for the PST to come out. I spoke with Scott at Liberty and he favors Sightron's glass vs Vortex.

I just pulled the trigger today with Brady at SWFA and ordered the Sightron SIII 6-24x50. I'm mainly using the scope to shoot paper and a little hunting here and there. I just bought my first rifle (DPMS LR308) about a month ago. I wanted to start off with something decent and not buy junk.

Either way, I think you'll be fine! Alot of great info on here and alot of friendly and HONEST(lol) people willing to help here. Good luck!
