This is a postal match, where you shoot the targets I send you on your home range, then send them in to be scored.

Participating in this match also helps raise money for AmericanSnipers.org. In three years of contributing part of the entry fee to AmericanSnipers.org, we have raised over $5500 which has been used to buy gear for our soldiers in harm’s way!

More info below and on the website.

Good luck!

DEADLINES

I have added an entry POSTMARK DEADLINE so there is an actual cutoff so I don't have people sending entries with 5 days left. With the deadline where it is, someone entering at the deadline will still have a minimum of 2 weekends to shoot. This means your entry needs to be POSTMARKED by the date listed to be entered in the current match.

The target return deadline needs to be adhered to so I can get the results up in a timely manner. This is also a POSTMARK DEADLINE

PRIZES

Prizes are donated by generous and willing vendors, so please don't forget them when you need to buy some gear. Prizes are given away as a raffle using the completed targets you send back. So there is no incentive to cheat, as the winner has no assurance of getting any prizes. If you send back a completed target in both RIMFIRE and CENTERFIRE class, you have 2 chances to win.

Re: SMACK the SMILEY Fall 2009 ENTRY OPEN NOW!

Well, I shot it today.... it was a dismal appearance at the range to say the least, but I did shoot it and I am sending it in for scoring.

Thanks for doing all of the work and helping the ASA with all the proceeds!!!

Dave

Re: SMACK the SMILEY Fall 2009 ENTRY OPEN NOW!

I didnt think of that !!! Which round has 10 pellets in it? That would probably do about as good as I did this time around!!!!

Thanks for the match Jason and thanks for all your hard work!!!

Re: SMACK the SMILEY Fall 2009

Hah!

OK, I should have all entries up to date on the website. If your name is not there you don't have targets coming...

Good luck! COuple weeks left to shoot your targets!

JB

Re: SMACK the SMILEY Fall 2009

Targets coming back to you JB. I would also like to raise a motion to have the term "confidence shot" stricken from the match literature. From this day on it should be know as "confidence destroyer" or "overconfidence shot".

My case: As the following picture demonstrates, this one shot can turn a record breaking target into a piece of toilet paper not worth submitting.

rima.jpg

Re: SMACK the SMILEY Fall 2009

I just put my target(s) in the mail.

Thanks goodness this is a best of 4 competition! There is over 90 points difference between my best and my worst target. I would probably approach it a little differently if we only got 1 shot.

Thanks for putting this on! It was great fun. The guy shooting next to me couldn't believe how small the targets were. I had trouble seeing the small smiley at 50 yards. I can't imagine doing the centerfire at 100 yards...

Bro if you call that toilet paper not worth submitting I hope you never see some of the one's I've sent in!!!

Maybe I'll get to the range and get mine shot before the deadline.

Re: SMACK the SMILEY Fall 2009

Ouch... that went from an almost perfect target to minus 90 on the confidence shot!

I chose the small smiley for my confidence shots. I hit it twice... and turned two targets into "toilet paper."

Re: SMACK the SMILEY Fall 2009

Missed confidence shot just zero's that shot's score, there no negative penalty. So the pictured shot went from 40 points for that smiley to zero.

Re: SMACK the SMILEY Fall 2009

i think he was including the lost value of the confidence shot as well as the zeroed hit. that's how i view it as well.

as far as the targets you submit, you have the benefit of this not being the only rifle competition you can compete in regularly. i always assumed you just didn't take it very seriously since (to my understanding) you do well in other comps. hell, quite a few times you didn't even bother to either shoot your target or send it back
smile.gif

in my area, the only other choices for comps are hipower (which i'm not a fan of) and a monthly 600 yard clay pigeon match. since the 600 yard match is all bench guns and high dollar front rests, i'm woefully under equipped (and i hate shooting from a bench). so this is the only match i get to shoot. so when i screw up, i get pissed at myself

I just reread the rules. It zeroes the score for that shot. In other words, it erases the wipeout (50 points), plus, he was going for at least 40 on the confidence shot, so that is a net 90 points missed. You simply aren't going to win with a missed confidence shot on the small smiley. It exes out too many points.

At minimum, you need to be capable of making the shot 50% of the time for the confidence shot. 50% means that if you go for it every single time, you will yield about 1 in 4 targets where you will make the shot (twice). Buy 4 targets, you will likely have 1 keeper. Then again, you might have 2 or you might have zero.

That is some nice shooting, BTW. Those bullet holes look small, but super accurate. Is that a .223 or is that a rimfire?

Re: SMACK the SMILEY Fall 2009

i wouldn't worry to much about me, StevenW and Matchking are the guys to beat in rimfire.

besides, for me this is more of a me versus me thing than a me verses you thing. i'm fine with a low score, so long as i didn't screw myself with a mistake

I am usually competing with myself, I mean it is an honors system comp and all, but I am one competitive SOB. I like to know where I stand.

You should try the long range rimfire comps in the rimfire thread.

There is a link here. It is a friendly comp with categories at 100 and 200 yards. There really isn't such a thing as rimfire F-class, so these comps are about as close as you can get. Or at least as close as I can get. I know there are some tactical rimfire comps in So Cal. Anyway, I would like to see more people competing in the SH Long Range Rimfire Comps...

Roger that. You are correct, I consider myself very fortunate to have a local monthly Precision Rifle match, and I do view the STS as a great way to regularly donate to a good cause, and a fun target to shoot if I get a chance to shoot them, and lastly as a great raffle!.

I do OK in other comps, but honestly I'm horrible at paper. For some reason I can get better shots when someone says "10 shots, 45 seconds on a 1" dot" than when I have unlimited time to shoot a 5 shot group
crazy.gif

I just chimed in cause that was a target I'd be really happy with, and then I misunderstood the points lost. When I hear or read "negative" I'm thinking penalty (like a hole in a hostage target).

Nice shooting any way you look at it.

Re: SMACK the SMILEY Fall 2009

Finally got our holes punched in the lottery tickets!! All 3 of the centerfires, but only 4 of the rimfires are coming to you. We have no clue where the other rimfire target went... it is lost somewhere between Windy Gulch and the house.

Vince "Cholo" still won't take a confidence shot for some reason. He is comfortable shooting the Savage, but he hates the thought of loosing points that he already has made. I can't say that I blame him, but it is always worth a try.

I forgot to get the measurement of the 3-shot group that my wife did, but looked to be close to 1/2". I think she even passed me along the way. I am proud of her to say the least, especially being the trooper she is on going ahead and shooting, even while being sick. My hats off to her!!

DK

Re: SMACK the SMILEY Fall 2009

Finally got some holes in my targets but could have had better weather. Shot them in a downpour and had to put them on the dash of the truck with the heat on so they wouldn't be soaked when they went to the post office.

Jason, I apologize in advance for the sad condition of the targets. That's what I get for waiting until the last minute.

Thanks again for all the work you put in to the match!

With the FALL match, we raised another $277 for AmericanSnipers.org!! That puts the total well over $5800 raised from the Smack the Smiley Match!

Competition as always was pretty stiff. You gotta nail everything to get near the top 3! 200 didn't even get you in the top 5 this time!

Not too many people are rewarded when they take their confidence shot at the 40/50pt smiley, but Carter was!

Results should be up on the website soon, but here they are below for those that can't wait
