Noob question. I was told these are better for reloading 223, for shooting out of a AR-15 varmint. Or is just a reguler FL set better? I would appreciate any info before I get them.

Re: Small base sizing 223 die question.

Reloading section would be better for this.
Small base is only neccesary if you need them, its more about feeding and reliability than accuracy.
My AR and two others I shoot with (Model 1, Bushmaster, and RRA) have functioned 100% reliably with just a regular FL sizing, with Redding and/or Hornady dies.
The downside to small base is if your chamber is not tight, you work the brass more than neccesary, effort required is greater, and you're chances of sticking brass may be increased.

No need to add anything. Good advice

Re: Small base sizing 223 die question.

I use small base dies only in my AR style rifles (.223 / .308 / .30 RAR). I didn't really like having a live .308 round, that was full length sized, stuck and partially into battery. Since switching over to SB, I haven't had another feed issue, SB dies really work great for semi's.

Re: Small base sizing 223 die question.

I size all the 223/5.56 brass I find or buy once fired in a small base die the first time. Gives me a known base to start from....

Re: Small base sizing 223 die question.

Since my ammo may be fired in any one of my 6 AR's, I use a small base die for all my reloads whether 223 or 308. Gives me peace of mind knowing that my reloads will chamber in any and every gun I happen to pick up.
