Well, I have been looking for new glass. Was planning on the Bushnell Elite tactical with the G2DMR reticle or the SS 5-20. Well through some dealing at the gunshow I ended up with a Leupold 8.5-25x50 Mark 4 LR/T with the M5 turrets. I am not as familiar with the leupold line. How does this stack up to the above mentioned?

it's GTG.... I've been happy with every Mark 4 I've had and currently run Mark 6. Never owned or shot with the other two, but the scope you picked up is solid IMHO. Unfortunatley though, your new Leupold is not front focal plane where the other two are.

dk-1: Do you like your Mark 6 better than your 4? I have been toying with the idea of going with the 4 instead of getting a 6 based on price and illumination. Is the 6 worth the extra $$$ even without the illum?

Personally, the only Mark 4 I would consider giving my Mark 6 up for would be the 6.5-20 LRT with the new knob design and 34mm tube, but it is not illuminated either. The nicest thing about the Mark 6 is its light weight and small profile. If I were to build a lighter weight/short barrel 308 I would go with the 3.5-10x40 M5. The mark 6 is sitting on my 260 now as a permanent fixture. I love it!!

Agree.

Leupold seems to catch a lot of flak here on the hide and I'm not really sure why.

I've found the 'hides attitude regarding Leupold has kind of rubbed off on me, and I find myself hating on them sometimes, but everytime I look through one, I think "Wow, that looks really nice!".

I've moved on from Leupolds to "higher end" stuff, but my Leupolds (as well as several friends' that run them) were always clear and bright, held a zero, and tracked.

What more do you need?
