Good thing it was a field tip and not a broad head.

Lifelong bowhunter and shooter here. And I can attest that broadheads, especially the regular triple or dual edge ones, WILL put a serious case of DRT on anything they hit. I rather stare down the barrel of a pistol than have a fucking bow drawn on me with a gleaming broadhead on the end.......Or face a knife, unarmed for that matter. Same shit, and equally nasty.

Mechanical heads are nice and snazzy. BUT, if they do not open, they ain't worth beans. Montec 3-blades are my preferred selection for medium to large game.

I have heard of several bow related accidents over the years, usually because some blockhead did not take "sufficient backstop" into account and an arrow went through, traveled quite a ways and struck someone walking their dog on the next street. Good thing is that usually people do not practice with broadheads attached, so these accidents are non-fatal for the most part.

Idiots and weapons...With or without involvement of alcohol. Never seems to be a lack of it. I know the image featured here is an arrow, but brought to mind something else too.

2005. Straight outta high school. Got a friend who was on his way to college so we met up at another friend's place to enjoy some beers and BBQ. The other friend's dad was a hunter, had several rifles around, so as we were all into hunting and weapons in general, started talking about shooting. Who is the best shooter, blah blah. Just normal, testosterone fueled shit talking.

At one point the guy brings out one of his dad's deer rifles, a CVA Buckhorn .50 caliber in-line muzzleloader, and proceeds to demonstrate to the other friend how the thing operated. Okay, cool. I settled down in the other corner of the living room to see what was playing on TBS. Still remember it. It was Money Train, with J. Lo.

Next thing I knew there was a flash, the room filled with smoke, and my head felt like it got hit simultaneously with sledgehammers on both sides. If you have never experienced a rifle being discharged in an enclosed space.........disorienting and painful is the least that could describe it.

Yep. This fucking guy loaded around 60 grains of Goex down the barrel, LEFT the ramrod inside, primed the breech in his "demonstration", and ND'ed the gun right into the ceiling. The ramrod struck the corner where the wall met the ceiling directly above the window and embedded itself deep. Just several inches lower and the rod would have went straight through the window and flew God knows where.

This fellow got his ass ROYALLY beat by his dad when he returned home, as we found out later. When you are still reluctant to talk about it, even years later, it must have been a hell of an ass whooping he received.

It may have been a broadhead. The picture shows the arrow shaft but looks like the tip might have broken off. It also looks like there is a wire attached to it (?). Weird

I noticed that wire (or string?), also. Pretty odd. But the exit wound, if the left side of the pic is indeed the exit wound, looks a little too clean to be a broadhead exit channel.

I agree. Something is off here. The article said the guy bled to death. The picture looks like he’s prepped for surgery. Not much blood present. Doesn’t look like a fatal wound. What is in season right now for archery?
    So many questions....
