Rifle Scopes So.......is the SS 3-9x42 the scope to beat in the

Re: So.......is the SS 3-9x42 the scope to beat in the

I have 2 of the ss x9. I think they look just as good on 9 power as the x10. I go to the SWFA shop from time to time and for the money the x9 SS is the BsNes. Shoot if you could find a used one from them for less pick that bad boy up. Plus the people at SWFA are great and worth giving money too.

The SS 3-9x42mm is a very good scope for $600. as is the SS 10x42mm HD for $800.

But I would also give a serious look at the new Bushnell 3-12x44MM FFP Illum Mildot. With 80" of adjustment range, FFP, side focus, MIL-Dot Illuminated reticle, Mil adjustments, and a price in the low $800's, there is a lot to like.

Yes, it's over the price range of the 2.5-10x42MM, by a few hundred bucks, but it's not unreachable.

I had a PST 2.5-10x42 on prepaid pre order, unfortunately I had to cancel my order. I picked up a SS 3-9 and could not be happier. I bounce between the SS 3-9 and a NF 5.5-22X56 and can't complain.

The SS 10x42 is pretty nice too. For a little raman and less than double that 6 C's a USO ST-10 can be had, but that is maybe two months to three months of raman from teh grocery and brew bill to the rifle bill

I am interested in the Vortex 2.5-10 as well. I like Vortex and own a 6.5-20x44 Viper and am very happy with it. The illuminated reticule, larger FOV at the lower power slightly higher magnification are advantages in favor of the Vortex. However, I own the SS 3-9 and really like it. I have it on a M1A NM and use it to shoot steel out to 800 yards. IMO it is the best scope under $1,200.00 for this application. I was concerned with parallax problems and have not had them. I will look at the Vortex 2.5-10 when it comes out but I doubt if I'll replace the SS. Both brands offer excellent value and have great warranties. I'm waiting to see how the Vortex 1-4 and SS 1-4 are going to compare. From what I've read the Vortex has the price advantage but the SS has a brighter reticule illumination. Time will tell.
