My question may seem simple, but it just perplexes me to no end... I normally login and do a quick look through the classifieds, mostly the optics(looking for a new-to-me optic). But I've noticed a lot of NightForce optics listed...why?

Let me expand just a little on the "WHY?"

My thinking is that the NightForce optics are supposed to be the optic to own, and the prices are pretty high for new-in-the-box. So why does it seem that everyone is getting rid of these optics? Is there something wrong with them I'm just not seeing? Or maybe there is a better optic for less $$$$, and I just haven't found it yet....
Or is it a simple case of "I bought the optic for X-rifle and it's just too much optic?"

Help me out here!

Hard to tell. You see a buncha high-end, nice rifles on there every day too. There's nothing wrong with the rifles. Some people just revel in the new build, new direction, new toy, thing.

Maybe they recently got introduced to First Focal Plane and have to dunp the NF to go that route.

Re: Someone help me out here.....

In my limited experience there is nothing wrong with NF scopes. I love mine. If I were in the market and had the cash Id buy another one. I know people who own other more expensive scopes who also own NF that feel the same way.
Dedicated shooters have this sport in their blood. They usually grew up hunting or took to it from the military. They usually trade up for better features or ease of use with any piece of equipment. I personally kept my NF moa/moa scope and had reticle change to MLR/mil with high speed and zero stops. Instead most people would sell their NF and buy the new MLR/mil high speed scope. Possibly sell the NF and try a different brand in USO or Premier. Usually not trade down to lower priced scope. Im sure they would buy a less expensive scope to put on a different rifle but wouldnt sell the NF unless it were due to money or family issues or to trade up.
There are people who build safe queens. Spend $5000+ on a rifle and scope to take pictures of and show their buddies. Buy all the gear and all the toys. When the new wears off they sell it. What good is a $1500 NF scope when its sitting in the closet?
Like any other sport, people get into it and find out its not for them or they dont have time. People often change the type shooting they do. Maybe a bench rest shooter wants to change to F class or more tacticle type shooting. The reticle in the bench rest scope wouldnt be much good for a 1000 yard tacticle match and vise versa.
I wouldnt put much weight in the theory that people are selling NF scopes due to poor quality or they dont perform. My theory would be they are getting another NF with better features or buying a different brand with better features.

Re: Someone help me out here.....

I was wondering this very same thing only I've noticed it with the US Optics. Seems like their is a couple new (usually brand new) USO's for sale everyday. Hell I've seen 4 for sale that are still at the USO factory. Maybe it's always been this way and I've just noticed it since I've kinda been thinking about trying a USO, but who knows? I currently have 4 NF scopes and I love them. I'm about to send one in to NF to have the turrets changed over to Mil. Other than not being FFP (except the F1) I dont see how the average person could ever need anything more/better than a NF. Most people never come close to shooting to their equipments max ability.

Re: Someone help me out here.....

lotta times i read about people winning a scope at a competition. choosing a NF from the prize table will be a sure return on your entry fee. some may buy them as an investment. i saw alot of premiers bought before the price went up. then i say alot of premiers sold just under the new price. some people make money at any opportunity. everything is a commodity

Simple ANSWER:

Many on this sight are LIKE me... We are WHORES to our own addiction.

We love guns...and all that goes with them... BUT.. in the end... If we see something nicer... and its obtainable... EVEN if we have to do the unthinkable and reach into the back dark crevouses of our safes to sell a loved item.... We WILL do it..

Its an ENDLESS cycle.... and before its ALL over with, MOST of us will have bought SEVERAL houses....cars....tuitions to MED school... and countless divorces in the never ending cycle of feeding our addiction.

Hope that helps guys... I love this stuff... use them JUST about weekly.... but theres always room from one more
