I've had the idea for a zero stop tool for my Nightforce F1 for a while now but just got around to making it today. It's a simple, handy tool that I can keep with the scope to adjust the zero stop and slip the knobs on both my F1 and 2.5-10.

A quick run down though...it's a piece of 3/8" aluminum rod cut to about 1 1/2". On one end I used my dremel tool and hand files to notch it out so that it would engage the brass elevation screw in the center of the assembly. Typically I only do this though if I'm going to set the zero stop below my actual zero, such as a .5 mil or so. I can use one hand to hold the clutch against the stop and use the tool to turn the elevation screw down a few clicks, it beats trying to use a coin or whatever else I happen to have in my pocket. The 5/64" allen wrench is epoxied in place and used to loosen and tighten the screws in the clutch assembly as well as the set screws on the elevation and windage knobs. The 5/64" wrench is pretty common for elevation and windage knob set screws and the notch should fit other scopes with "coin slot" type screws so I suppose it could have other uses outside of the NF scopes.

After having this first one in my hands though I'm going to make some changes to the next one that I might make this weekend. I'm going to reduce the dimensions some, the notch can be about .050" shorter and the allen screw can be quite a bit shorter as well. I also plan to drill a hole through it so that I can attach a laynard but I was working on this on and off for about two hours today so I didn't get to it. I'll probably also forgo the ghetto dimpling job, I thought it was a good idea but after doing it I regret it, should've just kept it clean. Oh well I have some more aluminum.

    Re: Something I made

I'm going to be working on that this afternoon actually, I'm going to cannibalize one of my clip on lens clothes for the little clip. I'm hoping to make another one tonight or tomorrow with some of the revisions that I've been thinking about all day.
