My last child, son #2 took his ASVAB last night and is signing his enlistment papers on Thursday, 4 November, 2010. This is my second child in the Army and they are the 3rd generation from the family in the military. My mother and father were in the Marine Corps, wife's father was in the Army, I was 21 years in the Army and now onto the next generation.

My first son has been in a little over a year and is doing what I did in the military (stationed in Germany) and I am still doing as a career while my 2nd son wants to go Infantry. Not sure how that happened but you have to go with what you think you like at 18.

I am a very proud father today...a family business if you will. I pray for safe training for my son and a decent assignment. Of course, Mom was crying last night as that is our last child, the baby, and he is leaving too.

Congradulations to you and your wife for raising a son with such dedication and honor. Congradulations to your son for serving his country and choosing to be an Infantryman. I wish him a safe trip to Sand Hill. The hard work will be worth it when he climbs honor hill and recieves his crossed rifles.

Keep us (or at least me) post as to where he is stationed. I just got out and still have friends stationed around the world. From one veteran to another, thank you for your service, your familys sevice, and the service your son is about to start.

KNIGHT11B4, thanks for the kind words and I will keep everyone posted on his assignment. It is the beginning of the adventure that many of us on this site have seen and taken. It is a long journey paved with sweat and some tears but well worth the trip. It changes you in ways that are very positive for a strong countryman.

Going up Honor Hill is a proud day indeed. Great job on raising kids that understand the importance of service. He's going to grow up a lot during infantry OSUT, but it'll all be for his good. Not to mention, you can never have too many blue cords in the family. Kudos to you, and best of luck to him.

I have to give him that one. Had a goal and went after it.

well, he got the call from the recruiter today and he is going to MEPS on Monday morning. He got his Infantry contract and will sign the papers next week. He is going to basic in March 2011. Better than the Marines at the moment which I read are waiting 7-10 months for basic training. The economy is pushing the younger crowd into the military due to the sorry state of jobs in the U.S. at the moment.
