Pretty incredible video of current soviet sniper weapons systems,

New Russian Large-Caliber Sniper Rifle - VKS "Vykhlop". (English subtitles) - YouTube
So it seems the VKS started out as a semi-auto and was then "simplified" into a bolt action. It appears that it is a "straight- pull" bolt...no round is ejected upon firing....the bolt is pulled rearward and then pushed forward. I sort of have a thing for straight-pull bolts...Fortner, Krico, M95, K-31 etc.

Basically the Vintorez would be like building a .300 Blackout SBR AR15 with a suppressor and scope, and then calling it a sniper rifle. VKS would be like the same thing but in .510 Whisper, with a semi-auto action, and then closing off the gas system and taking out the spring so that you have to manually cycle the action.

I definitely see the usefulness in doing these as Russia is probably thinking theyre gonna be fighting in more close-up urban environments. Obviously I doubt these would be of much use in a place like Afghanistan where 1000yd is spitting distance.
