Rifle Scopes space between objective lens and barrel

What is the minimum space between the objective lens and barrel? I'm shooting a 308 cartridge, with a nightforce 12-42x56mm. I used IOR low with a 50mm. With the new scope it's .086mm between the barrel and objective lens.

The minimum space would be 0.000". If you really have .086mm, or around .003", then you're nearly there. If you meant .086", then it's a gaping chasm... but you probably won't be able to install flip caps either way.

If you can slide a piece of paper through you are fine.

Don't expect to use BC Caps though.

This is how much space I have. I never slid in gauge to measure. I took a Dremel to the BC cap and removed about half the thickness and it still will not slide all the way on. You can see the barrel contour is about as far as I can get the cap on. I was worried at first it was too low but it allows a very fat chipmunk roll cheek weld.

A belt sander works awesome for shaving off the B.C. caps for fit.
Been there done that.

I went ahead and mounted my new scope and zeroed it in at 100 yards. As y'all said everything was fine...Thanks! Next I shoot at Camp Lejeune. OHHRA!
