Sportsmans Warehouse was here in Las Vegas about 2 years ago, took them over a year to open up the dam place, about 9 months later they closed the doors to both the stores they opened here, due to opening to many stores throughout the U.S. at one time which is what there excuse was. Now a few days ago I noticed they put a banner up on the old site that says qoute ( We are coming back Sportmans Warehouse )First off they were doing great sales here, and then they closed, now they want to come back while Las Vegas is in the total dumps, personally many people here feel like they dumped on us by leaving the first time.
While Sportsmans Warehouse was gone,Bass pro shops opened up a very nice store here and has everything we shooters need,so if Sportsmans Warehouse is reading this, how about just staying away from Vegas we dont need you anymore.....

Re: Sportsman Warehouse

Is it actually Sportsmans Warehouse, or the company we got stuck with "Wholesale Sports" the canadian company that bought out all the stores up here and left them running??

Re: Sportsman Warehouse

I worked in Vegas in 2009 for about 6 months and every time I went into the Sportmans Warehouse it was a ghost town . They had hardly anything in stock and very few people working . I can understand them closing the store since its pretty hard to justify hemorrhaging cash in a shitty economy just to make sure the few people who shopped there can come back .

Re: Sportsman Warehouse

Sportsmans Warehouse was decent. Better than Cabelas, Gander Mtn. and the local Shooters Supply. I was sorry to see them close down.

Re: Sportsman Warehouse

Their are still a few of them around here. I liked them, I hate cabelas and bass pro, wont go to them. Scheels in Reno is the best store I have EVER been into though.

Re: Sportsman Warehouse

Loc: Bearsville, NY Back around 1997, I started a new job in Pine Hill, NY. Cool, I thought, Charlie Smith has a great gun store there. I week before the job started, he dies, store closed. Then, they(NYCDEP) sent me to Margaretville. Great, on the way is Betz's Gun Shop. Shop closes a month later. Now I'm going to Gilboa, and I see Mudges' Gun Store being opened in Prattsville, on the way. Great, this store is legendary, moving back to NY from New Mexico. Hope he didn't stock the store yet...the flood wiped the building off the map, according to a Fire Dept friend of mine. Haven't been able to even get there from here, yet, and my generator has used about $50 worth of gas, since the hurricane. Line crews here from Kansas, helping out.

Re: Sportsman Warehouse

I was in the market for a ATV trailer a couple weeks ago and went to Gander Mtn as I remembered seeing them selling both ATVs and trailers in the past. I walked in and the store looked like it was a ghost town. Several employees saw me but none of them offered any help. They also seemed to be lacking a lot of product they once used to stock. The place was depressing so I left.

I then went to Bass Pro to see their trailer selection. I found a group of 5 employees sitting at their station just chatting. No one got up to offer any assistance even though I walked by and was looking at their trailers and ATVs. I was ready to buy that day. The problem with the big stores is that they do hire quite a few employees but they don't really care about the goods being sold. Very few are true specialist sales people. The rest are there just for the job. I contacted Bass Pro CS and told them of my experience and I got a simple canned response in return. I ended up purchasing a trailer from a local outfit that were more than happy to sell me what I wanted with good service to boot.

Re: Sportsman Warehouse

I worked at Sportsman's Warehouse in Oregon for 4 years back in the day. I loved the brands that the company carried as it was all big name for decent prices mainly. Stock was pretty much always full, and you could always find stuff you are looking for.

As for the company itself, the owner had plans to sell it long before he opened all the new ones. It was never going to last long and everyone knew it was just a matter of time before it was bought out... Then it happened.

Anyway, it WAS a great company, and I miss the easy days of working at a sporting goods store like that!

I went in there with some buddies after a LONG night of drinking in Reno. I walked around that place for nearly an hour trying to find someone from the group. That place is huge. The Sportsman's Warehouse in Rocklin is GTG for the "oh sh#% I'm out of powder" moments.

Re: Sportsman Warehouse

We have one here where I live, the guys that work at the gun counter are well, less the professional. Most of these guys are dumber the a bucket of rocks. I wanted to test afew of them out and went in and asked for a box of ballistic coefficients. Those guys ran around for 30 mins looking. In the end, the guy came back and told me that they will have them in next week!

Re: Sportsman Warehouse

I prefer sportsmans warehouse over bass pro and cabelas as well. Bass pro is right down the street from me. I'll drive the extra few miles to sportsmans to avoid the cheap chinese red head line and over inflated prices.

Re: Sportsman Warehouse

They have a couple in the Denver area, the prices are pretty reasonable. The reloading gear is plentiful and they usually run some darn good sales on firearms and glass. Also they have a military discount; which helps with the bite of the sales tax. Also they have the balloon sale once a year, where the first 500 customers get a balloon at checkout for a 5%-100% discount. Ive been to Cabelas, Gander, Bass Pro and SW is my favorite.

Re: Sportsman Warehouse

Our sportsmans stays very busy down here and has decent prices. Pick up most of my reloading supplies there. If they ever closed I'd have to rely on bass pro and their reloading section is just pathetic.

Yup - the one here always seems to have better pricing. I'm ok if other guys don't want to shop there - fewer people for me to have to be annoyed by.

Re: Sportsman Warehouse

Really? Really?

Your all butt hurt because a company had to shrink a little bit in order to survive and now they're doing well? Sure would suck to have a few more jobs coming to las vegas wouldn't it...i know you guys are just fuggin packed out there.

People feel like a company left them out in the cold? Where you somehow personally invested in this place?

I agree, American Company hiring Americans paying American taxes and we have citizens of the Republic saying do not open the doors or stay closed...I cannot understand. Its obvious they are doing well again because they are growing in this economy by opening stores.

That's an instant classic!!! Gotta remember that one for some of the short-bus riders we have working in some of the local shops around here!!

Re: Sportsman Warehouse

The Sportman's Warehouse in Lexington, KY has a far larger selection of reloading components & powders than the Bass Pro Shops in Clarksville, IN or Shreveport/Bossier, LA and the Cabelas in East Grand Forks, MN.

Cheaper prices than Bass Pro & Cabelas too, to the tune of $7/8 per pound of powder.

Yeah but I just bought a Ruger LCP for $299 there, I see them USED here for $350 - can't argue with the prices!!!

Re: Sportsman Warehouse

We have a few Gander Mtn's within an hour here, and they vary by store. Some have good employees, some can't tell ya where the bathroom is. I think it depends on the store. The SW we had in Green Bay was open just a few years. Nice store, but the employees weren't every helpful.

Here's the deal with them. The Owner of Sportman's Warehouse was over-expanding past his pocket book and merged with Wholesale Sports putting up 17 stores as collateral with them. When he defaulted then Wholesale Sports stepped in and took the stores. In the process numerous vendors got burned for large amounts including companies like Nightforce(3rd party info). So you've got to give them a little credit for not just shutting the stores down and killing off another of the few gun stores we have over here in Kidnap County...

They're grossly overpriced on ammo though. A box of FGMM 165 SMK cost $37.99 at Wholesale and I can go to Surplus Ammo in Lakewood and get the same box for $24.99. They're selections are always running low and as for custom ordering anything, good luck unless it's a big ass purchase...

Re: Sportsman Warehouse

Broker, so what you're saying is you have the Canadian pricing on your ammo, huh?

Welcome to our world, thank you very much. Ya'll who're thinking that ITAR 'is all that'.
