Spotting scope help

Will be used for target shooting at the range out to 600 yards on shoot n see targets. Not looking to overspend on something, but also not looking to buy something that won’t do its job at 500 yards.
Suggestions?

He’s talking about the shoot-n-c splatter targets. Not sure if he’ll be able to pick that up with the Konus. I haven’t ever had a chance to try though.

I was also hoping to use it for hunting if possible, just for glassing speedboats, or mulies

I’m inclined to believe that better glass is going to be the safer bet here. The clarity will allow you to see the fine details of the splatter at those ranges. Hard to gauge without some kind of price guidance though. If seeing the holes was my only goal, I would consider snatching up one of those Athlon Ares spotting scopes that are currently on sale. Couldn’t tell you if thats the bottom dollar that will work, though.

i took a chance on this svbony spotting scope. it works ok.
don't be tempted to buy a cheap tripod with it.

Was there someone in particular that had those on sale. I looked at cameraland and their add said $459 for the 15-45 model.

I have no idea if that is a sale price or not

What power would be reccomended to see hits (or more importantly misses) on steel at up to a mile?

Can it be done for under $300?

What price point do mil reticles show up?

This is the mile target ( 2 ft x 2 ft) at Thunder Valley through a Leupold Mk4 12 -45 is at 45 power. Seeing misses is going to depend on the berm and caliber. Seeing hits usually is indicated by target (steel plate) movement.

That’s depends on glass quality. Example: A good quality pair of 10x42 binoculars can allow you to spot shots on steel out to 1000+ yds. (Disclaimer: depending on conditions)

I believe best bang for your buck spotter with a reticle is the Bushnell Legend Tactical T. Has a FFP reticle, 15/45x and can be found for < $500.

I had a Bushnell T for awhile. Mine may have been a lemon, but spotting shoot-n-see targets @ 600yds was most definitely not in the cards.

I never tried to spot hits on shoot n see targets @ 600 yards, but i did try at 450 yards. It was sometimes possible to make out a hit, and sometimes not. Some hits produce alot of yellow, and some not as much. I considered the attempt to be a failure.

Maybe bigger shoot n see targets, or a bigger caliber rifle would have been better. The guy i was spotting was shooting a .223.

But, there were several spotters set up. And the better spotters could see them without trouble.

Ive got a bushnell t series I am not using if interested has the ffp mil hash reticle. I think it would be fine I can make out birds nest in trees at 1000 yds pretty easily. Havent taken it to the range yet
