SPR style AR scope mount/ring questions

I am building a SPRish AR. I am at a cross roads on what to use for mounting my scope. I need some input from those who have done this type of build...

Flat top AR upper, Bushnell 3200 10x scope.

1. Use the A.R.M.S. #22 high scope rings (I'd like to go this route). It appears from pictures that the rings are mounted to the swan sleeve. I am only running a flat top upper. Would the high rings be too low without the sleeve?

2. Use other rings. But have the same concerns as above.

3. A mount/ring assembly like ADM, Burris, LaRue

4. ??? thoughts/ideas ???

Thanks!

Re: SPR style AR scope mount/ring questions

No opinion on the scope, but mount/ring is the way to go.

I've used ADM and GG&G, Bobro looks nice too.

Make sure it is AR height, around 1.4" from top of rail to center of scope.

Re: SPR style AR scope mount/ring questions

Thanks for the replies. I already have a scope, bushnell 3200 10x.

RE: ring/mount combo. I thought about a PEPR mount or SWFA's version. I don't know if I can swing $175 for a ring/mount right now. Atleast the burris or swfa mount would get me shooting..

Re: SPR style AR scope mount/ring questions

Since you like the idea of using A.R.M.S.® #22 High rings, you may want to look at the A.R.M.S.® #72Ext-LII 5.56 Cal. MKII Lever® Mount

Re: SPR style AR scope mount/ring questions

The ARMS #22 rings are the issued rings for the SPR mk12. The mod 0 (with the swan sleeve) uses the medium hight rings, and the mod 1 (no swan sleeve) uses the high rings. This is for a scope with a 40mm front objective.

Some (many) try to avoid ARMS products just because of the lousy business practices of the company (agressively sues other companies with even a hint of patent infringement, etc). Some find their mounting system to be a bit weak and prone to breaking, but I've had no problem with mine on my Mk12. Neither did Marcus Luttrell (read Lone Survivor to see what kind of punishment that rifle went through). Hope this helps.

Thats hot right there! Didn't know such a animal existed.....surely way out of my budget though...

I'm aware of the lawsuits/business issues. I try to stay out of all that. I don't know all the details, only whats been publisized. Surely not enough to make a "I won't buy your stuff" or "I'll only buy your stuff" decision.

In reality this rifle will be used for my Wife to shoot (atleast thats what I keep telling her LOL). It isn't a comp/duty/battle rifle. Range plinker only

That was my theory with the ARMS rings too. If I ever get a 30mm scope I would just have to remove the reducers vs buy a new mount.

Re: SPR style AR scope mount/ring questions

I love my Larue SPR mount, but for a range gun its admittedly overkill. It's nice to be able to easily remove my scope at will since I do shoot iron sights pretty frequently, but for a straight range plinker I think something like the Burris PEPR or SWFA SSALT would be your best bet. They're a cheap, effective, and easy means of mounting a scope on an AR.

That was my original idea, a PEPR mount. Then started looking around...my master plan went all down hill from there.

I think I have deal worked out with a member on here for a PEPR mount. It will serve our needs. If I come across a set of ARMS rings or a mount/ring combo for a deal I'll upgrade to that.

Thanks all for the conversation.

Re: SPR style AR scope mount/ring questions

I prefer NF Unimounts. The 1.375" leaves just enough room below my NXS 2.5-10 and SWFA 3-9 for Troy BUIS.

I keep a cut down 1/2" wrench in my grip if I need it to be "QD".

They are on the expensive side though.

Re: SPR style AR scope mount/ring questions

i ran a pepr mount on my Coyote hunting AR and the thing is solid, plus half the cost of a larue/Arms/etc..

Just gotta make sure your scope will have enough clearance on the bell. It should, but not 100% sure.

I checked into the NF mount after seeing a picture of one on a members gun on here....out of my budget, darn nice though.

I hadn't thought about bell clearance too much. Figured it wouldn't be a issue....how do I figure this out now?

Running a 40mm objective you'll have miles of clearance with any of the one piece mounts. Anything up to and including 60mm would fit with plenty of room to spare.

Re: SPR style AR scope mount/ring questions

I have the Larue SPR mount and use it with my Viper PST 2.5-10. My only complaint is that I had to fashion a riser to allow me to line up behind the scope. It is a tad too high.
