So I've pretty much decided I'm getting a Springfield 1911. My question is, is there that much of a difference from the GI Expert or Loaded to the TRP that makes getting the TRP worth the extra $500? I'm not an operator and I will only be using it at the range and to carry every once in a while.

Thanks for the input.

Re: Springfield 1911 variant options

It's all in the tuning and the fit of the parts. The GI Expert and Loaded, and TRP are mass produced. However, the TRP goes through another inspection to go over the fit and finish of the parts. The tighter and more consistent lock up, the crisper trigger pull. All these things can and do exist on a GI Expert and Loaded but there are more variances in fit and finish.

The 1911 bug is quite a sickness. Sure you'll pick up a GI Expert or Loaded for some .45 plinking. But then you'll discover all the aftermarket parts available and then you'll want to make the pistol fit you and your shooting style. Pretty soon you'll find yourself putting more $$ than a TRP into your pistol .

just my dos centavos.

Re: Springfield 1911 variant options

basically your paying for fit and finish in the TRP/Trophy Match. If its going to be just for plinking get a used loaded for around 600 or so. If its for serious work and for carry I would get a TRP. If for competition I would look at a Trophy Match. Once you add up what your getting with the TRP/TM over the loaded it ends up being worth the options on my opinion.

You are also getting checkering on the TRP, a better barrel, tighter slide to frame fit, and tighter lockup between the bushing and the barrel. I have a loaded and would go with the TRP if I did it again. The loaded has been a great pistol. I just have put more money into it to get it to the TRP level than if I had purchased the TRP in the first place.
