Sidearms & Scatterguns Springfield Operator

Re: Springfield Operator

honestly i like the springers better but have heard nothing but good things about the STI's. i know a lot of people who swear by em. both of mine are custom colts. but i wouldn't hesitate to buy either a STI or springer both have amazing customer service and warranty. i think its apples and oranges at this point, pick which one you like better.

Re: Springfield Operator

Cajun,

Not that it will change my thoughts, but are you looking at the TRP Operator or the Loaded Operator? (steel vs alum frame.)

I have owned a Loaded Opertaor, put a few thousand through it with no hiccups after the first 300 or so rounds. I was very happy with the firearm, and only thing I did to it was add a magwell. I've never had to utilize S.A.'s customer service, but I've heard from a few that it is quite good.

STI - I had their Executive model for competition shooting. I've never owned an STI single stack. STI customer service is also exceptional(I used theirs.) They didn't treat me like a number, they listened to my concerns, and we came up with an agreeable solution. My problem was sights not moving. The STI was also a solid firearm.

Of the cookie cutter bigger names, Springer and Colt are my personal favorites. I don't consider STI "cookie cutter" but I'd gladly own one of their pistol again anytime!

Be advised, railed 1911's are a bit more challenging to find holsters for, especially if you are running a light on it.

Best of luck.

Re: Springfield Operator

I would go with the Springer over the STI . Altho I have no real first hand experience with STI only seeing them at the range and what I hear from people that have them .
Sti dose have a reasonable name .

1911's are a very good platform .

Like Joe I like Colt's as well .

I also am not a fan of light rail's , you can get them that you can take of and on as need be .

Re: Springfield Operator

I have the MC Operator and it is an amazing gun. I like the fact it came with night sights and a rail which I think the STI Ranger II does not. If all was equal (depending on which Springfield model you choose) I would consider price, features and re-sale value.

STI makes a great gun and I have heard nothing but great things about them. The STI Spartan will be my next project gun for sure!!

Re: Springfield Operator

I have a Champoin Operator and that is a nice shooting off duty cary gun. I want the full size some day. The STI's are a good 1911 and in my area I cant find any of the TRP's or Loaded models.

Re: Springfield Operator

I can say nothing about the STI other than that I have heard many good things. Having a TRP Operator, I can say that it is a fantastic pistol that has not experienced a failure of any sort yet.
