I just got my sps tactical in today and it appears I have a plastic trigger guard group. Is this possible?

Mine is metal, as is my friends. That's odd... They didn't slip you a 770 by mistake did they?

Looking at it more closely, it is metal, but it sure looks like some kind of plastic composite. I use to own a 700 police many years ago, I know it had a very sturdy metal guard and bottom.
what can the action screws be torqued to on this rifle?

I could be mistaken but I seem to remember 45 inch pounds on the old PPS and 35 inch pounds on the SPS.

Yes, they are very cheap, you could buy a better aluminum one from midway or go all out for a good steel setup.
Don't go above 40 inlbs.

I have the same rifle herb40 and I thought the same thing when I first looked it over before buying it 4 months back. It looked as though it was cheap plastic with a grained texture to it. But, it turns out to be Al and all is good. I thinks I'm gonna sub in a CDI set-up in the near future though.

Well I am glad I am not the only person who thought he had a plastic bottom.
I need to remove the Hogue stock and dremel a little around the end of the stock. The barrel is slightly touching the stock. I will try 35lbs of torque when I put the stock back on.

I opened up the barrel channel. It will stop neutral contact, but as soon as you load a pod or rest the foreend on something you will have contact again.

Get a HS 700P take off from somewhere. Ask the custom builders about it. I run one on my SPS Tactical build and its awesome. Shoots soo well. I have mine torqued at 60 front and 65 rear as advised by some mates and asking a few smiths.

Open it up more.....mine doesn't touch from the bipod.
If you put a little torque on the stock though the fore end will flex

I agree, the Houge stock leaves much to be desired. I would be getting into a new stock..but instead I just bought a 5R 300 win mag. I am not sure what Remington was thinking when they decided on the rubber stock. I suppose it was price???????
