On Thursday the wife and I went to my LGS to pay down on a AR SBR and a 762 Suppressor. As I was about to leave my sales guy haded me a Rem 700 SPS Tactical in 308. The wife bought it for me on the spot. It will be my first 308. I have ordered a Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14 40MM Target Mil Dot scope for it. I can't wait to shoot this gun. I figure I will need a bi pod and a sling. Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

Re: Spur of the Moment Purchase

Hah, while I agree with the other guys, I would say that as long as your Mark 4 tracks correctly, it would be a fine scope for you.

I would use the SH search engine and search out "how to box test your scope." That will tell you how to test the tracking of your scope, as long as it tracks fine the glass is good enough for sure.

I would second the recommendations to buy as much ammo as you can afford.

From there, sign up for the online training to make the best use of your ammo.

Enjoy your new rifle!

STR, I see you are from Miami. My wife is from the FL Panhandle. I think it is something about FL girls.

+1 on this! She doesn't exist unless you post a picture! Hahaha...

Congrats on the shopping spree... Good times.

Re: Spur of the Moment Purchase

Sorry boys, but no pics of my wife on the Hide. I can show you what she does get me. Just ask, and I'll show. She doesn't even care for guns, she just likes making me happy.

That would piss of my wife's sister. Bad.

So, you are outta luck. Just let your imagination run wild. Florida girl, loves the sun, cars, and guns.

Re: Spur of the Moment Purchase

She is a wonderful wife, I am very fortunate.

She also shot a smiley face in a silhouette target at 25 feet with a 357 the first time she ever shot a pistol.

Re: Spur of the Moment Purchase

Get the muzzle threaded so you can use the can on either one.

I have found that I prefer using suppressors on bolt guns: quieter, cleaner, no worries about developing a load that cycles the action AND is accurate.

I found my SPS Tactical is most accurate with Hornady 168 gr A-max match loads, with FGMM 168gr SMK a close second.

If you use a front bag instead of a bipod, you don't need to replace the stock, IMHO.

Muzzle came threaded and I have already mounted the ACC muzzle break/ QD for the ACC 762SDN-6

Good tip on the Bag. What do you use as a bag? Is this something I can make, or get the wife who sews to make? What should I fill it with?

Re: Spur of the Moment Purchase

I got a cheapie at Bass Pro.
I should have filled it with walnut shells or poly beads.

Instead I used kittly litter - heavy, turns to mud if it gets wet. Ugh!

I now have a Manners MCS-T stock and use a cheapie (kind of) bipod, but I think the front bag is more accurate.

I had one like that and got rid of her after 25 years. It cost me a bunch but I would have paid more to get rid of her.

My girlfriend loves guns and shooting, drives a corvette and is into anything with horsepower.

She's Puerto-Rican, looks fantastic for being "almost fifty" according to my ex. Maybe it's a Florida thing.
