Well I had my first squib today, I was shooting my SA 1911 with some reloads I made quite some time ago, got to the last round in the mag and it popped instead of banged. I thumbed the hammer back and tried again thinking it was just a light primer strike but that didn't work so with some muscle I was able to eject the case that had a thick coating of resude inside of it and found the bullet lodged in the barreljust past the chamber.

I've shot probably 4 or 5 hundred rounds out of that batch so far without a problem, so I don't know if that one got through without getting a powder charge or a bad seal and the powder went bad in the case, I'm not sure. All I know is now I need to head down to home depot and get myself a length of dowel and pound that sucker out.

Re: Squib

when the case came out did you have any unburned powder? May have had some contamination but most likely you "F'ed" up. Obviously this can be pretty dang dangerous and depending on how many you have left time to disassemble or dump. I am sure you know not to hammer the projo out without disassemble. You could damage the firearm

Re: Squib

There was no unburnt powder just a thick layer of resude on the inside of the case. I probably did fail to put powder in it, casing the squib, but like I said I've gone through about half of the 1000 rounds I loaded up with no other issues, probably just a one time screw up. Yeah, I took the pistol apart there at the range to see what had happened and its still in pieces lol.

Re: Squib

You NEED to check EVERY powder charge. It's something that comes with a lot of practice. Also look down into every case when you go to seat the bullet. I know you probably do these things already. And having a bunch of old farts chewing on you doesn't make you feel better. I'm glad for you it wasn't in the middle of the mag and a fast one followed it.

On the range rod. Cut it 10" long, lock the slide back and insert the dowel down the front of the barrel. Try to place it on a flat steady surface and push increasing the pressure on it. If that fails a gentle nudge on the end of the dowel with a hammer has helped in the past. If it were me... I would take the barrel out and lock it in a vise with wooden jaws and smack it out using the dowel and hammer. But I realise everyone doesn't have the same tools I have.

Good luck.
