SS action and bbl, or carbon steel?

I want to start shooting precision/benchrest, so I'm doing research prior to buying a bolt action .308. I have a few questions to start off. What will give a longer service life, a SS or carbon steel bbl? Is fluting "worth" it? I tried to do a search on the SS bbl question but didn't have much luck.
