Any of you guys had trouble with the Superior Shooting Systems {Tubb} speedlock kit firing pin spring dragging in the bolt on the Remington 700 SA ??? The last two I installed were rather tight. I had to put the factory Remington spring on the speedlock firng pin to get it to work right. Called SSS and they admitted to having other guys call in with the same complaint but they contend there is no problem. I have installed probably 25 of these over the years and they worked great until the last two.

Check the FP to make sure the tip is concentric with the aluminum body. I've had a couple where the TIR at the tip was 0.012".

Re: SSS Rem 700 Speedlock kit problem???

Thanks for the reply. I will definately double check that. Since posting this I have had time to confirm some measurements. It appears they supplied some kits with striker springs that have a larger O.D. than what they should. Factory springs are .405" but the two I have in the latest speedlock kits I bought are .415" All the Remington bolts I have measured have a .425" bore diameter. Sounds like it would fit no problem, but when you compress the spring the assembly has to be pushed into the bolt. The rifle will fire but you can feel it is not right. If I reinstall the factory spring it seems to correct the problem...time for some Wolff springs.
