Asking about the m-loc attached sockets.

I have the Magpul aluminum ones on my AR15s but my PA10 weighs a good bit more (13.1lbs) and was wondering if the steel versions from a place like BCM might be a better fit for the extra weight.

What say you all? Has anyone heard of an aluminum QD socket giving up the ghost?

Well, I suppose it depends upon the manufacturer. For instance, Geissele has gone to reinforcing their rail QD sockets on their 5.56 with steel 17-4 grommets. On the other hand, Knights makes specific sockets out of aluminum (not part of the rail) that do just fine as an add-on.

After having a QD socket 'let loose' unexpectedly during a Run & Gun event recently, I am moving to magpul paraclips and footman's loops on my rifles. QD is just too Q sometimes...

That was due to the QD itself getting activated and not due to a deficiency in the socket? Or had the socket become worn making the fit less secure?

Accidental discharge of the QD. My son was adjusting how the rifle was riding and somehow hit the QD button. Rifle and scope and suppressor all dove to the rocky gravel road. Once is too many.

I thought anodizing was some pretty hard stuff.

If your sockets are anodized and not damaged in some manner does that shit stay in tolerance?
