Looking for input on what route to go on an Remington 700 LTR that will be primarily be used for the range, maybe prs competitions eventually and occasionally hunting.

I’m left handed if that changes the input.

Will be using a Nightforce ATACR 4-16x42 F1 (34MM tube)

The standard is a pic rail with rings. Considering that you are shooting a .308, you might as well go 20moa with the scope base. You can probably find some rings in the exchange for a nice deal and can use the search function for a base as well.

The benefit of a rail and rings is that if/when you get another rifle, you have the option of switching your scope easily between the two. The problem with a top load Remington is that a one peice rail makes it slightly more difficult to top load.

On rifles that I hunt with I use Hawkins Precision hybrid rings. Think Talley’s on steroids. 25 MOA built in, beautiful machining, and bubble level to boot. I have many rifles with pic rails, but for my “do it all” rigs, I run the Hawkins.

Tally mounts are nice, no doubt. I've had a couple of sets but keep going back to the steel base w/rings.

Tally's are light and nice for top loading a BDL but with a two-piece base, you can get the same result. The Talley aluminum caps just seem a little thin. They're advertised to be super tough but I've seen them break before and have more confidence in base and ring setups.

If you were building strictly a casual hunting rig then the Talleys would work great and will be economical.

If you're going to try doing competitions and possibly moving the scope to other rifles with pic-rail bases then go with a set of base and rings... buy the best quality that you can afford.
