Just wanted to post a little on the new steiners. I acquired a 3-15x50 with their msr reticle and it's hands down the best scope I've ever owned. I thought my er25 was nice but after I got this it's going up for sale so I can get a 5-25 steiner. I was a little concerned at first with how much elevation I was going to have left after zeroing as all I had on hand was a NF magmount which has 0moa cant. Well after getting it mounted on my custom 6.5cm ar I took it out to get it zeroed. I was blown away by the eye box and the relief it has not to mention the glass is on par with a Schmidt or premier. After zeroing I started to dial elevation on the turret and was blown away after the window opened on my second rev and passed 15 mils then 20 mils and ended up with a total of 23.3 mils of elevation left after my 100yd zero, keep in mind it's mounted in a 0moa mount. Long story short these steiners are awesome scopes and in my mind the absolute best value on rifle scopes available right now! I had a 4-16 steiner and really liked it other than the size but these 3-15's are the best I've seen. Thanks steiner for such a great scope and we are all looking forward to what you have to offer in the future. If anyone is in the market for a scope have no doubts about anything in the steiner line up.

Forgot to mention the turrets. I'll admit the turrets in the 4-16 are a little mushy compared to everything else I've had. The turrets on the new steiners are very tactile and crisp.

The Steiners are currently on my radar for an upcoming purchase, and one of the things that's been "bugging" me is what do you guys using the MSR reticle think of it in actual application?

I remember when it was released thinking that they'd put too much crap in the lower quadrants that could interfere with wind-holds. In my mind, I thought the reference "stuff" (measuring and ranging tools) could have gone in the upper quadrants instead of down where I'm actually USING that open space for holds. Have y'all ever had an issue with the "clutter"?
I realize it's the ultimate in hypocrisy for me to allege clutter in a scope since I own some Horus reticles, but in that case the "clutter" is usable hash marks, not random "stuff" in the reticle.

Your field-use observations would be very helpful. Thanks

What caliber and bullet do you shoot?

I don't find that the milling scale or ranging marks clutter the reticle at all. I think that you will find they're not even noticed for the most part, they are down and offset enough to be out of your primary focus. I think you would have to be holding long distance with a lot of wind for your hold to encroach on those areas. The milling scale .1 tick marks are very nice to have.

If I put an HDMR on my OBR (shooting 175SMK) full-time then I'm needing to scope 2 precision ARs shooting 77gr OTM, plus a 6.5CM GAP 10 shooting factory 140AMAX. That's assuming the BEAST finally arrives to go on the 6.5 bolt gun that's being built right now. With the Steiner being the better scope, it may end up on the OBR and the HDMR may end up on one or both of the ARs.

I know, the mental gymnastics of keeping up with scopes to go on rifles. I built the 6.5 bolt gun because the BEAST was going to be an "extra" scope in need of a home. Now I'm back to more rifles than scopes again.

Thanks for the input. From what I understand the MSR/K moves the ranging media a little further down and out as well. I'm going to try to check one out, hopefully on a trip down to Australia in a few months.

I'm looking forward to having a beer with you if you manage to get down here mate, I compared the S&B to the Kahles today and was pretty impressed still deciding but the Kahles is certainly a front runner at the moment

Me too buddy, we'll just need to make sure to get the shooting done BEFORE we get started on Tooheys and Bundy. :D

Sorry for the reticle derail since this is a Steiner thread. The deals at CStactical are pretty awesome on the 4-16, which looks be a nice option for my DMR optics. I can't find much info on them though. Are they FFP?

I'll back the quality of the Steiner optics. I run a 5-25x56 MSR and love it. Once my maten upper and lower receivers come in I'll probably order up the 3-15 model to find its home on top. I have everything from S&B, Kahles, March and Steiner and the Steiner and March always find their ways on top of the guns I shoot the most. If I could blend the two I would have what I would consider the absolute perfect optic for me.
