Howdy,

This is my first impression of Steiner's first commercial thermal device. I have attached the spec sheet but BLUF:

MSRP: $4,799.99
MAP: $3,999.99
SH Price: PM Me
Availability: One week to two weeks max

IRay 12 Micron 640
1280x960 LCOS display
Native 2.04x with up to 16x digital zoom
Manual Focus
Same bluetooth interface as Pulsar
Tripod Mount
Waterproof
Similar to DLSS upscaling from 640 to 1280 display
Insanely smooth picture
AUTO NUC (Internal Shutter)
Con: Records at 640 so the photos and videos won't do this monocular justice
Pro: The clip on that will come out in a couple months is going to be amazing as it has the same specs and internals

It includes a very nice case with a sling, and the means to wear it around your neck when patrolling, scanning, etc. It includes both the power cord and an HDMI output. You could hook with Handheld thermal on a tripod, connect it to a battery pack, and use the wifi app to view the picture from a distance away (haven't tested how far yet). It includes international power adapters and includes no ITAR warnings. My first thought is that Steiner is new to the thermal game and didn't think of including the ITAR warning like they do with the DBALs. I will clarify when I have time if it is in fact ITAR restricted. Overall, awesome handheld for the price, durable, waterproof, lots of features, and inexpensive compared to what was on the market last year.

All of the videos are taken maxed out at 16x, the stop sign is approximately 200 yards away. The photos are taken with the native 2.04x. I apologize for the shaky hands, it does have a tripod mount on the bottom but I do not have a tripod yet. Again, the video is much better than these photos and videos as this is pre-AI upscaling. Let me know if yall have any questions.

For the clip on, I would assume that it can be used as a handheld. However, is there another magnified eye piece that you switch out like the yoter? Or is the display/eye piece demagnification digital as opposed to optical?

I would hope optical instead of digital as if it is digital, then you will not get the full 1280HD pixel density when using it as a clip on.

The clip on has a MAP of $4,999.99 but I will undercut Super yoter-c pricing for SH members. The data sheet on the clip on isn't even available yet but I assume it will be a native 1.0x.

Does the clip on just have an ocular mount or will a pic mount be an option?
When it says "2x 18650 built in" is it user replaceable?

The battery is internal so no, and the rumor is it will be ocular, however I could see their being the option for both pic and ocular similar to the Bering. I will call this weekend to try to get more info.

Yes, it has to be a native 1x total net mag for it to work as a clip, however that front end magnification from the germanium lens has to be met with back end demagnification from the eye piece. If it is a JUST a clip on like the UTCX/Xii, then the eye piece will be an ocular demag. If it is marketed as a scanner/clip on, there's a chance it could be a digital demag like the LWTS/LR which would severely inhibit the useful day time optical mag.

Based solely on the hardware specs, I expect this unit to not support quite as much daytime optical magnification due to the smaller germanium lens, therefore less front in magnification and resulting eye piece demag (if it's optical)

Man, internal batteries? Why, Steiner? I don’t want to lug a battery pack around on my rifle any more, I just want a few 18650s in my pocket. 😭

S35 is the tits, should have my C35s this weekend. For the price and all metal construction the S35 destroys anything else and it's what I personally use.

You think it's better than the super yoter R 35? Looks like the biggest drawback to the s35 is only two year warranty with Steiners questionable quality, 16gb storage, and weighs 3 pounds.

There's also like zero actual reviews on them.

I have been messing with Steiner S35 and C35 for a little while now and I have to admit I really like them. The only real downside is the weight. Image quality is quite good and price seems quite good for what it offers.

The clipon has been sitting on a 458SOCOM, so it took a bit of a pounding. No durability or POA shift to date.

Clip-on runs on a single 18650. Scope runs on two 18650 batteries. I need to measure the run time, but a few hours in the blind with the scope did not phase it a ton. Steiner claims 5.5 hours for the S35 and if you are not running WiFi, it is probably pretty close to that. I'll measure it with the WiFi streaming to my cellphone to see how quickly it kills the batteries.

ILya

I think the 5.5 hours is conservative. Advertising has never been Steiner's strong point, they leave it on the dealers in the US. They focus on the European side mostly, where they do very well. The construction is anything but questionable. They are solid. I've run a little bit of everything and the S35 is on my 6 ARC AR that is my go to hog / coyote gun.

That's a bit reassuring. Steiner isn't exactly known for the best QC with all the failing DBALs and the fact they actually released a red dot that wasn't even daylight bright 🤣🤪.

Having said that I snagged a S35 for about $2800 so I'm hoping it preforms well, even with the discounted pricing the lack of reviews and Steiner's history made it a tough pill to swallow. This will be my first thermal rifle scope. Glad to see Koshkin likes his!

You can't include the price of the Friday night special tarus and a burner car in the five finger discount and call it a 'discount'. Ill happily buy it from you if you don't like it.
