I have been toying around with the thought of going to a 6.5lapua on my steyr ssg in 308win. I think the rifle is awesome, it is a lot of fun to shoot now but I really want to try out the 6.5L cartridge. What do you guys think about re-barreling the steyr or selling it and investing into a different gun for the 6.5x47L?

I appreciate your comments!

Ok thanks for the advice. I have looked into the mags working but I will check and make sure in a few days.

I have done research and according to the guys at steyr USA the SBS action is like a conventional action where the barrel threads into the action. I have read a lot about the other steyr actions such as the SSG 69 being a press fit. I can see the press fit being an issue with a gun smith.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

I have a steyr ssg04. Basically 08 is the same gun with much much nicer stock. Steyr build their gun to shoot right out of box. So, if you need anything work on it, not many gun smith I know knows how to work on one. I know one name Jeff Reece and he is always busy as hell.

I appreciate the contact. How do you like the ssg 04 stock? I have been thinking about purchasing one.
I somewhat wonder if re barreling the rifle would have a negative effect on the resale value of the rifle. Although, right now I would probably have to let this rifle go for a pretty good deal to sell it.

I have no problem w ssg04 stock. Some feel it is too flexible. I get my sub moa on cheaper match ammo any day. Take that back. I had 1 minor issue w my stock. It came w butt pad very tight. I had to hit it to get it to move. Everything on my 004 is just simple and elegant.
