This topic comes up every a few years on this board. Does anyone have knowledge on after-market bottom metal for SSG69? I believe CDI made a few for a short period then discontinued it.

CDNN brought in the last shipment of 1000 SSG69 right before Steyr discontinued production. I am hesitant to jump on it if there is no after-market magazine option. In the future, the plastic SSG69 magazines will be even more scarce. They are known to deteriorate over time/usage.

Styria Arms of Austria makes an AICS compatible DBM setup for the SSG69. When I inquired he sent me a price list...

359 Euros for DBM plus 5rd AICS Mag
369 Euros for DBM plus 10rd AICS Mag

30 Euros shipping to the US
60 Euros for customs fees

I was tempted to buy one for my SSG, but a skosh over $500 would buy more than a couple spare SSG magazines.

I really wish that CDI would resume production of their unit.

Thanks for the info. I got the same quote from Styria over the weekend. Too pricy. If one upgrade a new SSG69 (1400-1500) with this trigger guard, the price is getting close to a used TRG22...

Yep.

I was once working with Sunny Hill Mfg close to twenty years ago but I did not follow up as I wanted 4140 and they were interested in Aluminum. Of course, there were no magazines but those super fragile mags at the time so I'm glad I did not.

The horrible thing is that the rifle is a tack driver. And Steyr SHOULD HAVE invested in further development (trigger guard material and magazine and that horrid stock material).

I do wish they would have threaded their barrels such that they could be purchased and easily replaced.

But all of that doesn't change the FACT that they *SHOOT*

I had a PIIK that never shot above 0.6" and often 0.25".

After Hurricane Katrina (I was no longer living in SE LA) I witnessed an EOTW Event and took inventory. Anything that was not *ROBUST* had to go.

And so went the SSG PIIK...

PS

Have you looked at one of the FN SPR Rifles?

Funny you mentioned FN SPR! I sold my SSG 69 with a double trigger and bought an SRP following the same thought stream. The SPR had a 20" barrel and was built like a tank. I was attracted by its thick chrome-lined barrel, McM stock, Near rail, and the classic Mauser bolt. I ended up selling the SPR after a couple of years too since it was just too heavy as an all-around 308 rifle. Now I am having nostalgia on SSG 69 (haha).

SSG 69 could have been easily upgraded by Steyr into a contemporary sniper rifle with just a little tinkering, such as the bottom metal, scope rail, and new polymer stock. I think they chose to develop SSG-04 and SSG-08 to sell for much higher price tag. That's a real pity. There is no real advantage from these newer rifle over SSG-69 other than some non essential features. I guess that Steyr decided to stay away from competing in mass market. I don't think their new sniper rifles are selling as well as AI or SAKO.

l heard that Styriaarms.com placed a Patent on the feed ramp in there bottom metal .And of course charge a heap of money for there DBM ,l have one of those CDI DBM`s and it is awesome and very well priced.
MDT had working prototypes of there LSS Chassis finished and ready for Production before finding out about the Patent so they stopped before even getting started.....so Styria well done on cock blocking the rest of the world on making parts that solve all of the ssg69 issues....
