Stock choice dilemma

I recently got Rem 700 SPS. The rifles is great, however, the stocks is terrible and actually contacts the barrel.
I am in the process of changing my stocks. Initially I wanted a Bell and Carlson light tactical, however, no one has then in stock and they are back ordered for 8 weeks.
I stumbled across Mcree Precision and I really like, but have a difficult time justifying the price.
Since I want something that's available I'm seriously thinking between HS Precision vertical grip long range stock, Bell & Carlson Medalist A5 and possibly McRee precision folding stock.
I also looked at the new Choate Tactical stock, but can't find it in stock anywhere for Rem 700 SA either!
Since I am a fairly beginning shooter, would it make sense to get McRee which is around $400 more than HS or Bell & Carlson?
What other options are possible that are in stock right now?

Re: Stock choice dilemma

Choate is the bottom rung. HS Precision and B&C are similar in construction.

One thing to consider with the McRee is that it has a built-in mag system. If you were to buy a different stock and have a Badger installed, you'd be looking for nearly the $400 price difference in the bottom metal and inletting.

I think the McRee's are great for the price - essentially similar to an AICS 2.0 for less money.

You could also consider a take-off stock from a PSS or 5r. If you are interested, send me a PM. I have a new PSS stock on hand that I'd be willing to let go.

Re: Stock choice dilemma

i assume you will be mostly in the prone position.
i you have the money, go with a manners or mcmillan.
if you are leaning toward something with a verticl grip, then a pss or 5r take off probably will not be to your liking. although, i shoot my 5r a lot and think the stock is better than some think.

Full-length bed the one you got now. Devcon all the way up to the end of the forearm. Costs $30.00. Shoots better than the aluminum block you were looking at.

Re: Stock choice dilemma

To me it seems that for the price of McMillan/Manners and bedding it makes much more sense to get McRee. What would be some of the cons against McRee's system?

Re: Stock choice dilemma

Shipments of the Choate Tactical are due in to several distributors this week. Midway (and others) say they can't seem to get enough of them. I think you might be wise to hold off a couple of days and try the Choate before dropping the coin on a high dollar one. See if it works for you. If it doesn't, you can probably sell it in a heartbeat.
