Shot in my second match this past weekend and came across an issue that I wanted to see if anyone else shares. I am running a stiller tac30 aw action with aw mags in a manners t4a with gen I mini chassis. What I'm finding is when shooting using a barricade bag it puts enough pressure on the mag to cant it raising the rear slightly and is causing bolt to hang in the rear position. Manners has since fixed this problem with the gen ii mini chassis providing protection to front of mag. But I talked with them and they said I'm pretty much stuck with my bottom metal.

My plan is to Dremel a little from the rear top of the mag to see if I can get the bolt to clear with pressure on the mag. But before doing so and hacking away at 70 dollar mags, I wanted to see if anyone had experienced this and had any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Even if your receiver has the bottom cut for AW type mags, those mags were never meant to run with a 2 lug bolt.

That being said, a ton of people are running them with Stiller and Defiance receivers with proper ramps and bottom cuts. The setups just leave zero room for screwing around. The bottom metal has to present the magazine absolutely as close as possible to the bolt path and then keep it there while cycling through all types of conditions. If your bottom metal allows the mag to be pushed up, you will get the bolt drag against the lips or body. If allowed to drop too low, you will not strip rounds from the mag or it will partially engage then lose it and over-ride half of the cartidge causing a jam.

Add in the fact that magazine dimensions vary a good deal from batch to batch and you get a situation that can be difficult to have 100% reliability out of.

Best bet is to pick a bottom metal that has a lot of Z-axis support and or protects the mag from binding (like the Gen II Manners) then get 3 or 4 of the same batch mags and tune the mag latch or bottom metal pinch points , NOT the mag lips, so that you create the best opportunity for it to work under different conditions.

Totally agree that the gen ii is probably my best bet. However with my existing stock and gen i metal, they can not be changed per manners without the potential of damaging stock. Ideally I'd lIke to inlet something forward of the well to protect mag. The cheap magpul ac mags will feed in any position, but their OAL doesn't support my loads.
