Stock Selection

Re: Stock Selection

A Big’un!

Well, depending on you’re proportions, you will most likely need more than the 13-1/2” Length Of Pull stock (LOP). You should try and visit a shooting store that has experience in fitting custom stocks (like a trap/skeet shooting shop)(some have a stock makers measuring device). There you might get the help in determining the correct LOP in the stock you need.

Other than that, you could get a stock with the adjustable length of pull (like the M24 Remington’s have) or a spacer system. Hate seeing a Big man cramped up on too small a stock.

Re: Stock Selection

General rule is the distance from your bicep to your trigger finger in firing position. Adjust for shooting/hunting jackets, etc. You may also find an adjustable cheekpiece beneficial.

I'm 6'4" and find 15" LOP just about right for me. YMMV

I love my AICS. You can add or remove spacers to change LOP. Alot of people don't like the weight, as they are pretty heavy. But for me, I don't mind lugging it around and I am a small guy. But the extra weight makes controlability a non issue.

Re: Stock Selection

I'm on the other end of the spectrum. I'm short and like a shorter LOP.

I telephoned McM and spoke with them about their spacer systema and what the shortest LOP on it would be. I ordered it, played around with it on my .308 and another M1a stock.

Now I just order 12 7/8" IIRC off the top of my head. I realized I never put any of the extra spacers back in so why bother with the setup anymore.

Try to hook up with another shooter with a spacer system or adjustable LOP and see what fits and order a fixed stock in the dimension you like.

Re: Stock Selection

Before shelling out on an AICS, I'd suggest handling one first. I loved everything about the stock except the thumbhole grip. It just felt like it was designed for small hands. It was too close to the trigger for me, which caused my index finger knuckle to push up on the bolt handle. I'm 6'3" and have fairly large hands.

Re: Stock Selection

Here's what I did. I got the AICS and the adjustable butt plate from Surgeon. I believe the Surgeon plate made the lop about the same as with the original spacers. You can then add the spacers to the butt plate and make the lop that much longer. Make any sense?

I concur. I've held several AIAE's and that thumbhole is designed for smaller hands

However... Comma... Roedale is making a chassis similar to the AICS, that accepts AI mags, and *DOESNT* have the tiny thumbhole...
