What's fair price for a stripped action? Say, Remington 700 long action, no bolt, no trigger, fairly old, but in 'decent' condition.

Also, is there any resale value on a factory bolt with the j-lock thingie on it?

Re: Stripped Action Cost

almost certainly no resale on a j lock bolt- the one on the for sale may be a fair price or not - that is a pretty subjective question

the better question is: will it sell for the asking price in a reasonable amount of time? history (a search of past similar sales) says yes

a full action job will usually involve a replacement bolt so in this case the bolt means little - it also usually involves a new/matched to the barrel finish so that also means little

so the next ? is: is it possible that I could obtain another rem 700 LA for less $$ - absolutely , but you could burn lots of time, effort + gas going to yard sales, auctions, pawn shops, gun shows and come up empty handed - even if you did come up with a better deal do you have the barrel vice and action wrench so it could be broken down for ease of shipping?

so if you are looking for the usual donor action for a full build - make the deal - if you do not someone else will
