Last year I took advantage of that massive discount and picked up a ZP5. I subsequently picked up an ERA-TAC 20MOA mount this summer when my upper came. I've never used a non-zero MOA base before so I'm a bit confused today.

I finally got my last piece in a few months ago for my build. Yes, it's taken me that long to get around to it. So I go to do my back yard laser level and I guess I need to change the zero stop in the ZP8 because I cannot dial the reticle up to where it needs to be. It's close to 12" low at 25 yards. Am I missing something here?

I guess I could throw my 0MOA base on and make life a bit simpler. Not sure why I sold myself on 20MOA at the time. Seemed logical at the time but for the ZP8 it seems to have PLENTY of adjustment for 6.5.

This was supposed to be my 700+ yard "plinker" (6.5cm).

edit: Well, the ZP8 manual actually says (had I bothered to RTFM) to NOT use a canted base.

What scope do you have? The title says ZP8 5-25 but the ZP8 is a 1-8 not a 5-25. Do you have a ZP8 or a ZP5?

The use of a 0 MOA base with a ZP8 doesn't have anything to do with zeroing, it has to do with optical performance at 1X. The manual for the ZP5 actually recommends using a tapered base or mount to maximize the amount of elevation adjustment available. I just wanted to add some clarification in case someone comes along down the road and gets confused.

Ooops...ZP5. My bad - fixed.

I just made it easy and swapped mounts. That said, since I may get the 4-16x steiner to replace my aging and long in tooth PST GEN 1 (2-10) I'd like to salvage the base.

You shouldn't not have a problem zeroing with a 20 moa base. Did you do the process in my above post?
I already changed the base out :). maybe I'll go back to the 20 though. Funny thing is it's almost perfect for a 100 yard zero out of the box (according to my wheeler laser tool). Right now, I'm just trying to get things mounted that should have been done 2 months ago. Though in reality, the other ZP was going to go on a 308 but I'm hedging that right now. Future plans may tell me the other ZP goes on something to go out to 1300-1500 if I ever reach that level (doubtful). In reality I'd need more "help" with the 308 than the 6.5 so it is half-dozen 1/6 the other as to which rifle gets the mount.

Thanks for the feedback...I may yet switch bases again :). I'm getting fairly good with my electronic level + plumb bob int the tree at 25 yards. :)

That's how most European scopes are zeroed. My ZP5 has around 25 mils of elevation left after a 100 yard zero with a 20 moa base.

Now you got me wondering. Granted, I shouldn't be multi-tasking at work (downloading for repository) and figuring out Zero procedure :). According to my Strelock, I should only have to go up roughly 14 mils at 1200 yards so no real need to have the base if we want to get down to it. I feel sure this thing should be able to do 1200. It's a Craddock build so I think the barrel will perform much better than the idiot operator.
