In the .30 caliber subsonic realm, is there a big difference in accuracy between types of bullets, such as SMK's vs. Game Kings?

I'm currently building a 300 Blackout and have a little experience with a 300 Whisper, but up to this point I've only used 220 SMK's at 1020 fps. I'd like to have a dual purpose round (paper and hunting) and not have to re-zero when changing ammo types.

I remember that pic from sometime earlier when I first started researching the Whisper. Nice kill!

The problem here is that the regulations are fairly specific for hunting:

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">d. Must use expanding bullets that weigh minimum 70 grains for deer, pronghorn and bear, 85 grains for elk and moose, and have an impact energy (at 100 yards) of 1,000-ft. pounds as rated by manufacturer.
    </div></div>

*Note: I may have misread the part about 1000 fpe. If it does apply to deer and pronghorn and then I am nowhere close and makes it a moot point. I'll follow up on that.

    Otherwise...

It's the "expanding bullet" part that causes my question. I understand about the Whisper (and likely Blackout) bullets tumbling on impact and creating a much larger wound channel. But the SMK's are not designed to expand and that's what would get me into dutch with the CO DOW.

    <span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">UPDATE</span></span>

Never mind, just got off the phone with DOW, they confirmed that the 1000 fpe applies to all of them. Bugger, so much for that idea.

If you need 1000 FPE, just hang tight, I have a gun and load coming available real soon that will fill your needs.

    Re: Subsonic bullet accuracy

If you're ever prompted, show the open tip to the Game Warden, hollow point and open tip are both expanding type bullets.

The 1k fpe issue is another one altogether and you're going to need to run appx. a 450gr bullet at 1000fps to get 1k fpe

This means you're going to need a big bore round of some sort, it sounds like 762frmafr is cooking one up as well as there being others available.

I've got him covered but patience will be a virtue....Some time in the early to mid summer...

Unfortunately I am comitted to the .300 Blackout project for the nonce. So it will have to wait until about the end of the year contingent on funds.

However, please post the information you mentioned...I'm intrigued!
