Already did an ar-15 carbine build now I want to move to something else. I am not sure if I should buy a complete rifle or do a build like my ar-15. Suggestions please.

Mega's Ma-Ten billet upper and lower sets are great in terms of quality and parts compatibility. They accept all AR-15 lower parts, except for a .308 bolt catch. You can utilize either DPMS or Armalite pattern barrels and bolts, as they will accept both. You MUST stick to the same pattern when purchasing a barrel an bolt. The same goes for when choosing a rail for the Ma-Ten platform. Ensure you get the proper barrel nut. Its very simple.

I read somewhere and want to confirm that a .308/7.62x51mm needs 18 inch barrel for maximum range. Is there any truth to this? Also what would be the best muzzle brake or flash hider? I am leaning towards a Surefire muzzle brake right now any opinions on this?

18 inches is the most efficient length, good portability and you burn all of the powder at 18 inches. However, 16 seems to have great portability but at a reduced velocity and a little more noise and muzzle flash. Guys are making hits to 1k with 16 inches so no worries about going short...

What he said. Hard to beat the Maten as a base for a great rifle.

Maten. But very hard to come by now. Might have to go GAP.
