Suggestions on barrel contour

My best buds, as a way to say thanks, ordered me a new Kreiger barrel for a custom tactical build in 6.5x47 which will be set in a 1.5 AICS stock with a NF 5.5-22x50. The barrel will hopefully arrive in maybe 4 weeks. I wanted to pick your brains concerning the contour. What contour would suggest? I don't want it to be whippy nor a beast.

Re: Suggestions on barrel contour

Seems like a lot of people like something along the lines of a varmint and medium to heavy palma contours. Seems like it's a good compromise between barrel rigidity, heat transfer, and weight.

Re: Suggestions on barrel contour

I want to order a similiar barrle one of these days and I don't understand the whole contour thing.

What would appear to "Look" close to the M40A1 barrel in a Kreiger - Frank had a pic of one of his older kreigers that interests me...

I want to run say 1" all the way out, maybe a tad more...

Re: Suggestions on barrel contour

Too late. My buddy called Kreiger today and it sounded like I'm getting someone's cancelled barrel; NEXT WEEK!!!!. He said it's a 6.5mm, 8.5:1 twist. Contour is #7 or #8. It has a 1.25" diameter shank, it extends out about 4" before the straight taper goes to .890" at 26" length.

Works for me!

Re: Suggestions on barrel contour

the #7 is nowhere near close to a remington varmint or sendero contour it is a straight taper target contour and weighs two pounds more than the sendero.

Interesting, I can't find that contour on there page. http://www.kriegerbarrels.com/Contours-c1246-wp3382.htm

It must have been a custom ordered contour. Any way you look at it, it will make for a nice rifle.

Since the technical info has pretty much played out, I'll point out that my friends are different then yours. Mine barely say "thank-you"....
