I'm in the process of acquiring a suppressor. It is a custom job and I have the choice of getting a jam nut added for adjustment. I have no experience with any of this yet. Any help on how to adjust for point of impact changes would be appreciated.

Re: Suppressor Adjustments

Using a jam nut isn't really a great idea. The whole point in the suppressor mount is to insure that its threaded up tight against the shoulder on the barrel. That keeps things straight and solid. The threads aren't necessarily straight and true to the point that would keep the can straight and solidly mounted. The jam nut setup will push the can against the threads, not the shoulder. You could on the other hand use shims that are straight, concentric and true to adjust the can to different points of impact. Every thread has a certain number of degrees for every thousandth of an inch in travel on the threads.
Having said all that its much easier to adjust your scope to the can than to adjust the can to the rifle.

Re: Suppressor Adjustments

It's C&S customs, it's a local class 1 manufacturer that's trying to get established. He makes good cans. The jam nut was just an option, not really recommended. Just for multiple weapons if I had to take it off and switch it. It was my understanding that he was going to machine the nut to be a part of the can itself and that I could put index marks on it for different rifles. I am not going to do it I don't think.

No such animal as a Class1 manufacturer. He should be a Type7 manufacturer with SOT.

While common for a new guy he is fixing a problem that doesn't exist. Install the can, then shoot it and learn where the adjustments are through your scope.

Casey,

Walk away from this guy as soon as you can. Nobody uses a jam nut that understand threads or shoulders or POI or just about anything having to do with attaching a can that is trying to achieve accuracy.

Totally agree, not to mention possibilities for baffle strikes go through the roof with a jam nut.

Just bad manufacturing, not a good way to get his name know either.
