Suppressors Suppressor repair

Long story short I've got an AAC direct thread on can that's a paperweight because AAC wasted 4 years and multiple trips back and forth before telling me they couldn't repair my factory defective suppressor and basically said tough shit. They fucked me without lube, didn't even spit on it and push it in like a gentleman.

What needs to happen is the rear section be cut off and a new rear cap welded on. Before anyone asks, yes I'm sure this is what it needs to have the issue corrected. The threaded portion is not concentric to the shoulder or the baffle bore, it's fucked.

Does anyone have suggestions as to who I may be able to have do this?

Man that sucks. I'd go ask over on www.subguns.com lots of title II gunsmiths over there, or used to be anyway. Tornado Technologies comes to mind, or TROS, but I'm not 100% for sure.

Badfinger, I think he just wants to wash his hands of AAC. At least thats my inference from the language anyway.

Correct, they finally said it can’t be repaired because they no longer have the parts to do so. They offered me a cheaper/downgraded can that doesn’t have the feature I bought mine for (direct thread 556), and said I’d have to pay the stamp again too. All it needs is the rear cut off and replaced which I’d think they’re plenty capable of doing.

I've found the people at TBAC are amazing and while they probably aren't crazy about repairing other manufacturers products I'd give them a call.

I gave TBAC a call and spoke to William. He explained that he wouldn't be able to do the repair because he wouldn't know where to cut since he doesn't know the design. He offered another solution however to bore out the defective threads, rethread larger and install and weld a plug concentric to the bore and shoulder since I believe those two to be correct. He estimated 3-5hr shop time and said he would get back to me by the end of the week whether or not they'd take on the job. I think that's reasonable and I've got my fingers crossed that he'll call me back with a green light. I let him know that I understand there's no guarantee but he seems extremely knowledgable and I'm confident enough to take the chance.

To update this, William contacted me Friday evening with the go ahead to send the can in. He said he thought about it and decided to go ahead and try to help me out with repairing it. Again he said there was no guarantees but he seems extremely knowledgable and I've got faith in his abilities. His idea of installing/welding a plug vs cutting the back end off IMO is genius and much simpler too.

There's no timeline and it was explained that this will be a "when we get to it" kind of deal which I'm totally ok with. I'm just happy they're willing to try to help me out with this when it certainly isn't their problem. The can has basically been a paperweight since I got it in 2012 so it's not like I'm sending anything off that's really usable and even if it can't be repaired there will be no major loss.


On another note I also picked up my first TBAC cans on Tuesday after finally being approved, an Ultra 7CB 30 cal and a 22 take down. These cans are friggin sweet, absolutely love the CB mount. The Ultra 7 is also much quieter than I had expected, great sounding can that weighs practically nothing. I've got a 50% off certificate for another can from them that I picked up from a prize table that I will almost certainly be using on a second Ultra 7CB but am also considering the Ultra 5CB due to just how quiet the 7 is. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to pick up another cert at the Carolina match next weekend and then get both!

You know I thought about this after the fact but it would be really great if instead of installing a plug/insert with threads he could bore out and install the mount/threads to work with the CB brake...............................yeah I know, probably asking too much!

Being that tbac has been running a re-core program fora little while now, that doesn’t seem entirely unreasonable, provided they can improvise if your can is a different diameter. I had a direct thread 223p-1 turned into a CB no prob
