Just received my Karma 5 and 7 in. Installed the Karma 5 on my 16.5 LTF Oly and the 7 on my .243 match rifle.

.243 rifle is a Tac 30 with 24" Bartlien barrel (had it threaded when built). Awesome with the Karma 7 on it. Recoil reduction is awesome along with sound reduction. POI shift at 100yrds is -.75". Only had time to print one group, but that group is just like what I am used to seeing.

The Karma 5 I installed on the AR (without testing much at all other than popping a few off) sounded great! I checked zero w/o it on and it was spot on. Installed the can and didn't hit paper. (8.5x11)
Cold, getting dark, packed up and headed home.

Running a suppressor on an AR.
What are some of the items needed in doing so?
    Heavier buffer spring?
Gas buster charge handle? (received a few blow backs)
    Anything to watch out for?

Now, getting ready to thread my AR10T barrel for the Karma 7.
I assume that the blow back will be a bit more.
After speaking with a few guys, I am a little iffy on running this on a stock gun.
    Any suggestions?

    All input is greatly appreciated.

Re: Suppressors Q's, gas guns, etc.

I run my YHM Phantom on a DPMS LR308 and I thought the adjustable gas system from JP I bought made a difference. I've had some blow backs as well. I might buy a gas buster but I'll probably try the home improvement method first.

Re: Suppressors Q's, gas guns, etc.

I'm running an Ops Inc with a gas buster. I still get gas in my face but the big latch sure is nice when charging the rifle.

Re: Suppressors Q's, gas guns, etc.

I run a can on a HK416 and shoot left-handed (using stock HK buffer spring and buffer in a non-HK lower). I still get a little blowback from the ejection port, but it is very tolerable. The charging handle has never been much of an issue for me, but I have seen a slick mod that involves some type of sealant that you mold into the handle recess to eliminate that issue.

I don't think the gasbuster CH is a good solution to the blowback from what I've read.

Stay after the cleaning when running a suppressor on an AR if it is a direct gas impingement model (especially a shorty). In my experience they run hot and dirty and can really "bake" on the dirt onto the bolt/carrier.

No. You are wrong. Running a gasbuster Charger is a good solution to the blow back. In fact, I challenge you to run one on your HK 416 and report back. I have. While nice for at least two different reasons, I find them mandatory on standard DI uppers.

Nothing is going to completely mitigate the gas. Nothing. But some things greatly reduce it. The silicon RTV sealant on a standard charger is hit or miss. Until it comes off unexpectedly, and falls off. Or causes a malfunction....

I run a Gas Buster on my AR with suppressor, and I honestly can't see much difference. Maybe I am just use to it.....cough,cough.

I'm not quite so sure. I've seen as much blow back from the charging handle with gas system ARs as without. A large part of the gas comes back from the chamber and magwell hence why the rounds are so dirty. This was using a POF, and LWRC piston system.

Anyone ever had real first hand experience with an RVT induced malfunc? Really asking. I don't know. I see this brought up every once in a while but I wonder. I have had RVT on a couple of guns for a year or so and have not had any problems, but that doesn't mean I won't in the future.

Things I have noticed: the GB is better than a standard CH. An RVT'ed standard CH is better than a GB. An RVT'ed GB is the same as an RVT'ed standard CH and both eliminate the problem of copious quantities of hot gases in the eyes (assuming one does a decent RVT job).

A switch block with a standard CH is better than a standard DI upper with a GB. I don't have a GB that isn't RVT'ed, but I'd be willing to bet a switch block with a GB pretty much eliminates the problem as well.

    Good luck

Re: Suppressors Q's, gas guns, etc.

Again, I am shooting left-handed AND ejection-port exhaust is typically a bigger issue than anything coming from the charging handle (oil etc - I run them wet). Here is my experience (yours may differ) in terms of overall blowback (greatest to least):

    1) Suppressed DI

    2) Suppressed Piston

    3) Unsuppressed DI

    4) Unsuppressed piston

Your suppressor can make a difference as well.

As far as charging handles, I don't see the justification for the gas buster handle aside from its increased beefiness (supposedly left-handers don't see as much benefit either). If I want a better charging handle, I am going with one of the new BCM Gunfighter models. Even the GasBuster has an Achilles heel with the roll pin failures. The BCM GunFighter is redesigned to correct this.

I do not use the RTV sealant on the CH, but obviously others have. You'd have to do some research to see if there is any issue related to malfunctions.

Re: Suppressors Q's, gas guns, etc.

Just to be clear a GB is different from a standard CH in that the bottom side has been redesigned to better direct gases away from the shooter. The beefiness is a by product of a better fit to the upper - again trying to defeat gas in the shooter's face.

I do think the BCM GF CH is a better design to deal with the inherent weakness of the rollpin location in a conventional CH.

A left handed shooters experiences are different from a right handed shooter's b/c the lefty's face sits right behind the pipe, as the bolt unlocks - hot gases flow out. There is no getting around that for the lefty with most gas guns.

    Good luck
