Suppressors Supressor accuracy for long range?

Re: Supressor accuracy for long range?

I think an ops can would be helpful. The Ops puts part of the barrel in tension, increasing rigidity, and I could care less if it actually makes the weapon shoot better than one with similar weight in a barrel, your spotter will miss trace less often.

He might claim to be a stud and never miss it but I would put the can on the gun, because when the spotter misses trace, I might miss again, and that's the sniper game- if you don't hit the first time, you better have a spot on call and put the second round on target in under 5 seconds or you failed.

Nevermind that the suppressor might buy me a second round without being spotted. Tactically and competitively it's stupid not to run a can if you have the opportunity.

Re: Supressor accuracy for long range?

HPLLC,
I agree and shoot cans at every opportunity, including yesterday. Seldom shoot without one. And the good ones shoot well enough for anyone for field use. I have not seen one increase the accuracy of an already accurate rifle. I just received a new build on a REM 700/223/Kreiger 1/7.5 twist for 70 grain BTS. Surefire adaptor with counter bored threads in the adaptor area and it shot .25 moa on the break in yesterday. (3 shot groups with can). I will try it with and w/o the can soon and report.

The hole just looks a bit darker around the </span>edge. With the can on the groups open to about .25 moa. Just my expirence. I think they are just another variable. Cool gas inside as opposed to hot, can moves during firing string etc. I do think most people shoot better with a can, due to recoil, blast etc. I have not seen any benchrest shooters playing with them. May be aginst the rules. I have never seen a group better than .5 moa at 1000 yd with a can. I am sure some of you have some but not me. </div></div>

Id like to see target pictures....
Your telling us that you can put 3 shots in the same hole? And with the suppressor you double in size?

Im calling bullshit!

Re: Supressor accuracy for long range?

I have done it twice. Once with a witness. As a rule I do not save targets. And there would be no way of proving range or # of shots. I do think the rifle will shoot 5 shots into .3 about any still day. Prone with bags. I do know that I have not gotten groups this good with a can on. As I have no proof, I guess I will just need to shut up about it. I really did not set out to prove anything, just trying to find someone who has a VERY accurate rifle, which shoots better with a can. I have not seen one. I think even threading the muzzle could be bad for accuracy. JMO. If anyone is interested, the load is,
Weight sorted (exact weight) Lapua case sized in a Redding FL bushing die. 336 bushing for a .337.5 neck. Weight sorted SMK 155 (palma) bullet.
F210 match. Hand seated. 45 gr. IMR 4064. All ammo for group shooting is spun on a dial indicator and has less than .001 run out. Seated just onto the lands. Bullest are weighed, re tipped,(Whidden tool), trimmed and sorted by ogive to base measurement. That is about all I can tell you. You are of course free to think as you wish.

Re: Supressor accuracy for long range?

Ive seen substantial accuracy gains in my GAP Crusader. It has an 18" barrel with an AAC 762SD suppressor on it.

And a Surgeon rifle that is in 300WSM with a Quicksilver Manufacturing suppressor on it. It is a real shooter with the can. I have 5 shot groups that are .30 edge to edge at 150 yards.

A can will help.... never seen it make someone or a rifle shoot worse.
