Guys

Just took ownership of a 280AI using a Surgeon XL and Surgeon bottom metal. Now it WONT be a Surgeon issue.....

BUT.....

The bolt will not pick the cases up out of the magazine. The cases/magazine is sitting to low. It is a L/A magazine, suited for the 300WM etc, but I also tried 300WM cases and still no difference.

The magazine seems a little loose in the bottom metal as well.

The bottom metal was pulled apart to be coated.. could the magazine release lever be put back in backwards? Is there any difference?

When I push the bottom of the mag, it does lift it up enough to pick the cases up.

My only other thought is the distance between the bottom metal and XL action is to great, not allowing the magazine to sit high enough, but it was done with the Surgeon pillars so I would think not.

Any ideas? Will go out the shed soon and check it out!!

Re: Surgeon XL feeding issue!!

You pretty much answered your own questions,...the surgeon actions ( rem clone) don't have a vast amount of case contact on the bolt run as it is. If the pillar height or interface with the bottom metal is slightly off then it cant feed.

Yep, just got back in from the shed.. problem solved.. well not solved but found. Bottom metal does not sit close enough!!!

No chance in hell of it feeding a round!!!

With stock off, and screwing the bottom metal on it feeds no problem.

Doesnt that suck.....

Cheers

Yup.It's a common problem of builds before they're finished. The spacing between the bottom metal and action is critical to get good feeding from a DBM in a Remy styled action.Bending feed lips on the mag will do a little but thats about it.Let us know.Goodshootin

Trim pillars or inlet more for the bottom metal? </div></div>

It usually means removing some depth of the material where the bottom metal is to bring the bottom metal closer to the action,I.E.bringing the magazine up so that the bolt can catch the case and feed it.Your only typically going to remove a little material unless something it really lets say,"wrong".
