HELLO ALL,

thinking about getting a 1-4x24 swfa scope but since im new to this, i thought i would ask some questions.

1. what is the maximum effective range when using this sort of scope when mounted to a LMT MWS 308?

2. what is the difference between capped and exposed turrets?

for the time being, i plan to shoot this rifle with this scope out to 400 yards and then moving on to 800-1000 yards. am i wasting my time with this scope?

thanks!

Re: SWFA 1-4X24?

The maximum effective range is dependent on the size of your target and how tight you want to shoot.

For a man sized target, 400 yards should be no problem with it, i'd venture to say 600 yards would be ok as well.

Capped turrets simply means the adjustment turrets are covered in a way that they can't be accessed without uncapping them. Exposed turrets are just that, turrets that aren't capped and can be turned anytime.

Some people prefer capped turrets on 1-4x scopes because they don't shoot far enough out with them to need to dial in corrections... and the mil hash marks provide enough correction in terms of holding over or for windage. So basically the adjustment turrets never get used except to zero the scope. Plus side is that the turret can't be knocked into an improper adjustment. Negative side is obviously that you can't dial in quick adjustments... then again, depending on your use, you may not need to at all anyhow.

Hope this helps.
